Hi Everyone!
I am a pre-nursing student taking my prerequisites. For my Eng 101 class I must write a Compare/Contrast (likenesses/differences) essay on whatever topic I choose. I chose LPN v. RN and was hoping that some of you might throw in your here so that may incorporate some 'real life' experiences/issues in my essay instead of just the facts, etc. which I can just look up on the internet. Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! :heartbeat

You should look at their scopes of practice. LPN's and RN's in Canada are very similar now due to the RPN (LPN) expanded scope of practice

I was going to say that you picked a horrible topic, b/c that would be about as easy to generalize as redheads vs. blondes, but Airidis has a good suggestion there.

I guess different countries have different scopes of practices??
The hospital that I work in, LPN's cannot give IV push medications and cannot admit and perform initial assessments on their patients.
Thank you. I was not aware that the scope of an LPNs practice was different in Canada than here in the U.S. I will look that up. :)

Hell, the scope of practice varies wildly not only by country but also from state to state.

I think you picked a bad topic no offense.
As an LPN, non-nurses think I wipe butts for 8 hours. Seriously. Not to offend anyone either but its true. LPNs function under the supervision of an RN. You really can't compare/contrast us to RNs because we can do most things an RN can do except for what our practice acts states we cannot do.
Can I suggest to you a topic that might be a little less .. controversial? Difference between Nursing Careers and Medical Careers.

No offense taken! :) And thank you for your reply and suggestion... D
Nursing/Medical have enough similarities and differences. LPNs/RNs.. have too many similarities, and the only difference is whats defined in our practice act. You do have to write an essay here and you want as much "meat" for your paper as possible.
