i am a lpn with over a year experience. i have a part time job but would like something prn to go along with it. most jobs are looking for part time lpn or fulltime. due to me starting ns school soon i would like the option of working prn along with partime for the flexibility and extra income. sooo i'm thinking about applying to some sitter or cna positions. i know all about accountability and etc. i am just wondering if any other nurses on here have done this and what their experience have been. i also wonder if employers would hire me as a cna with a nursing license. my cna license expired last year.

Some employers will hire you, others won't. You have to ask. This sounds like a good idea if you can't get a part time nursing job, as long as you can find an employer to hire you in this capacity. I worked as a CNA while in school, and went to LVN jobs once I got my LVN license. I didn't work as a CNA again until I was laid off down the road and had to leave the area. I don't recommend a licensed nurse work in a CNA position if a licensed position is available.

CNA's are certified, not licensed. You state you understand about accountability, but have you read your NPA lately? I would be sure to know my limitations, for what I say and do. I hope you find a position soon.

I am an LPN, and have just landed a private duty home health position, I make more money, am my own boss, and its easier work. I will mostly be doing HHA/CNA work, but its less stressful, than 30 residents in a nursing home, I have more flexibility, to continue with school, and honeslty am making more money than I would FT as an LPN in a nursing home. I say do whats best for you
Thanks for the advice. I will tread carefully. My apologies. I used to have a CNA certificate :)
