2014 LPN students

Published

This thread is for those who is about to start LPN program. It will be great if we keep each other posted on our excited journey, share the experience and maybe answer questions that others will have about the program.

So, i guess i start. On July 11 i will be starting 11 months long program at one of the local technical schools. My mandatory orientation is on June 10 where, according to letter that I received, we will be given our first homework (a month before the actual course starts!!!). I am 31 y.o married and have a 3 y.o son. I work as a CNA and I will continue working p.t during the program. I am very nervous because I haven't take any science classes since high school. English is my second language but that will not be a problem. I chose the LPN path because I love to work at the patience bedside, i can earn decent money and gain more hands on experience. I am planing to further my education after becoming LPN.

I am wishing everyone who is about to start or just started good luck! Lets do it together

Woooooot , woooooot ?????? to your ears !!!!

I'm starting June 30th and very nervous. I'm going to be working full time while going to school. I heard that the program is intense, so I know a little of what to expect. Orientation is June 25th. Zalina, thanks for some of the advice that you gave; I think it would really help me with the program. I hope I can keep in touch with all of you while going through the program.

What school will you be attending. I start on the same dates as you we may be in the same school. Ill be going to ATA College.

I'm new on here and I start the LPN program at TN tech this September. I'm currently waiting for a letter to find out what date orientation is on. I've been searching the internet for any piece of advise that current and former students can give about this program. I'm excited but extremely nervous as well. Im married with 3 daughters ages 10, 4, & 2 months. Im very motivated and dedicated to this program. If Im going to be away from my baby in order to become a nurse...then I'm definitely gonna give it my all. Congrats to all of you who are also beginning this journey or have recently!!!

I just got my acceptance email!!! More info to come on orientation, etc. In the meantime, I'm enjoying reading everyone else's response on getting started. Gives me a little insight on what to expect in the weeks to come before I start! So excited!

I am starting my 11 month Lpn program June 30th, I have orientation tmw June 26. Lets see how it goes!

please send it to me

I am taking Human Development Across a Lifespan and Anatomy & Physiology early for college credits. My actual LPN program begins July 28th. I am a single mom to a beautiful 4 year old and I work two jobs. Been a CNA for almost 4 years and I work part time as a CDS Homemaker. Open to any advice lol.

Oh and I live in Poplar Bluff MO but will be attending TRCC in Kennet MO

I'm from Sikeston :) been at TRCC for the last 2 semesters doing some basic nursing classes that I will apply later to the bridge program. Will start LPN in Cape Sept 29th.

So those who is about to start their program is there anything that you do in order to be prepared for school? They gave us couple

I don't have orientation until the 17th so I'm not sure of any stuff as far as prepping for classes yet. BUT I received my nursing packet today and man do I have a lot to do as far as vaccinations, buying scrubs, books, supplies, etc. Luckily I don't have to buy another stethoscope cause I still have mine from my PCT class.

They gave us couple Of pages with common abbreviations and terminology which we are going to be quizzed on. Besides that is always good to know vital signs.( what is normal blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration should be. You will need to memorize the differen numbers for infants, adults and geriatrics).

You will need to buy a watch with a second hand.

It is highly suggested to buy an organizer/planner. Does anybody have a suggestion on good planner?

In my school we have to have a laptop and we have to bring it to class every day.

Also you will need to buy a pair of white (comfy) shoes. Any suggestions on those?

For those who is going to full time school i think that it is a good idea to order at least 3 pairs of school scrubs. I ordered 2 just because I didn't have enough money with me that day, but I will get 3 more pairs because I know that there will no time for washing my scrubs after each time i wear them. Your appearance is part of your over all evaluation. So it is very important to have your scrubs clean and pressed.

You will have to buy a good stethoscope.

i will be starting 2 weeks from now and there's still so much to do. I feel anxious....can't wait to start this journey

I got my acceptance letter last friday for LPN. I start August 25th. Currently I'm a CNA at a snf and rehab. So excited!

I have been accepted into the LPN program at GPTC. Our orientation isn't until the 21st so I am just patiently waiting to get started on all the preliminary stuff for the program. I wish they sent us out packets so we could start on things now during this waiting period.
