I went to orientation last night and we have a pretty small class (approx. 21), everyone seems nice and eager to get started. I haven't been in school in almost 10 years and am VERY nervous!!!! Any words of wisdom or advice would be greatly appreciated.

First off congrats on starting the program! My advice to you is to stay out of the drama, do not fall behind in the reading, form a study group, tape your lectures if able, ask questions on anything you are not clear on. Brush up on your A&P...you really need a solid foundation in this for Med-Surg and Pharm and last but not least, relax and enjoy the journey...

Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind.

Congrats:yeah:! You will do just fine, always read the chapter berfore going into class..

Let me know if you need anything. I will be more than happy to email you some good

information....:D

Thanks so much, i will definitely keep you in mind

Congrats... Read and study hard. Stay far away from the dramatic ppl and all the drama. Most Importantly... Ask for help right away when yo need it. Don't wait... What school are you attending? GOOD LUCK

Congrats on making the decision to start a program!! I agree with what others are saying, read and study, you will have to be in a very committed relationship with your books while in the program...lol

Stay away from the drama, because there will be plenty of it and stay away from those that are negative. I finish my program on wednesday the 9th and just found out I am class valedictorian out of 40 people in our class and through it all I sayed motivated and focused and studied and read the chapters before class , doing outlines of the chapter also helped me focus on the most important parts of the reading and then lecture just helped reinforce it.

Good luck! if there's anything I can do to help just let me know:)

Hi sorry for the slow response, I have been COMPLETELY overwhelmed with school and work. I am in the Lincoln Tech Hamden, CT program (22mths nights). We had our first nursing exam this week and I got a 98. I was so stoked. I had to end up taking a cut in hours at work because there just wasn't enough time in the day for both school and work. If you work while going to school, how do you handle it? I am struggling trying to find the balance.

I definitely will thanks. Congrats to you on finishing and being valedictorian, that's awesome!!! I hear you all on the drama. There is some of that going on in my class, but I don't think the people involved will last long in the program. We've already lost 1 and another just never showed up and we're only 2 weeks into it.

I'm impressed, you sure are doing great for someone who hasnt been in school for a long time. Whatever you are doing , keep it up!

I bring my books with me to work. Every free minute I have, I study. I go to class right from work (also in an evening class) and listen to the leture from the previous day while driving. I also study when I get home from class for about an hour or two before going to bed. Basically, I rewrite my lecture notes from class and listen to the lecture again. This way, I have everything fresh in my head before calling it a night.

It is tough, but determined to finish. Congrats on your first exam score...keep it up and before you know it, you will be done!

HTH!

good luck im in hamden as well not lincoln but eli whitney, I have been doing great on my exams, but like they said focus, cut out all unnecessary stuff, read ahead of time that way it's only review in class.and whatever you do DON'T fall behind
