a few years ago here in Ct a pharmacists refused to dispense the morning after pill, when the girl went back to the doctor, and her mom went with her it turned out she had been raped and she brought in her police report to prove it. Why should someone go to these lengths to get what is needed?? (and by the way he ended up getting fired) Are pharmacists going to start denying men Viagra?? No then **** and do your God damn job, don't like it find a position where you will not have your delicate sensibilities trampled on. As a woman who herself needed to take birth control due to irregular periods, and had to fight the catholic organization that controlled our health insurance I would NEVER make it my business to tell my patients half the truth or to deny them their needed care, that isn't our jobs, those aren't part of the 'vows' we take as nurses or as doctors, if you can't live up to them then do the world a favor and go work for organizations that believe as you do and stop pestering the rest of us with YOUR views. Yes I am med certified, and i have been doing this for a while, so I know what I am doing, certain meds you have to have extra training on like insulin (our facility lets you work with the LPN with this one) as this helps free up the LPNs and RNs for more critical skills, also our facility doesn't allow the MedTechs to do Narc, as they had issues before, and now have the Rn and a LPn doe those. Also since I am in a LPN program I am 'held' to 'higher standard' to quote my manager. I can't do anything on my own but I work with the RN and LPN for most of the 'non-allowed' meds. I would also defend the CNAs who have been doing this for 20 odd years and say their critical thinking skills are just as if not better than some of the newer nurse coming into the facility. As they KNOW the pts really well.

Thank you!!! and yes two years Med certified and so far only (please never again) 1 med error, similar looking pill bottles, same name last, and the J and T looked the same luckily it wasn't anything too serious given out and they fixed the labels as i wasn't the only person to have the same error.

that seems to be more than a med error that looks like (or sounds like) your saying they may have diverted the meds, definitely mention it to your manager as a something you noticed, not as a tattling bit. I pass meds as a cna and can tell you that anything missing should be reported Good luck

In CT they start at 18-22 depending on experience, more experienced (those with CNA backgrounds) can start as high as 25 as one of my friends did in LTC, so it depends

the reason they can't tell you is they don't know themselves. once they closed the program other nursing schools came and took their spots, so now they have to desperately attempt to get back into those spots or try new places *and thats not easy as it sounds* as all the good places are taken and all the others don't want students or are very far away. I think you should do it, it's only 18mths, even in the nursing program (rn) they tell you within an 1 of the school site for clinicals. best of luck

B/c older nurse eat their young??? I had a nursing counselor tell me when it came time for me to apply to schools, when i told her my real passion was OB and i wished to be either a midwife or a Dr look at me and tell me "not with those grades" I'm a B+ student how much better do my grades need to be?? You know the best part?? Im getting ready for my direct entry Midwifery program (i have a BS in health and wellness, and Im studying to be a LPN so i have some clue when i go into the field). So she could kiss my fanny tell your daughter to just tell herself she's(the teacher) mad she's not going into the field now instead of retiring Best of luck

ok here's what works for me: I skim the chapter before class, pay attention in class take note of anything they seem to repeat of say is important (it's usually on the test) after school i review the chapter notes i took and read the chapter that way i now know what the chapter is about and i knew what the teacher was going to go over (and i will have more informed questions in class) I sometimes re-write my notes if they are pretty messed up *reinforces the information* i use all the resources that come with the book so if my book has a study guide cd and i go on there and take the practice tests, i also do the questions for review at the end of each chapter, if i dont understand something i will ask the teacher the next day or review it with other class members TAKE PLENTY OF BREAKS to let the info sink in, study each day instead of waiting til last minute before the test. Anything you have a problem with focus on a little more with flash cards (if they work for you) or sometimes i give myself a practice test esp with med terms, try to write down as many of the things you remember then go back and see what's missing. Along with everything listed here, I have some tips as well: buy a stethescope that comes with the penlight, bandage scissors, eye size cahrt (although some of the penlights have it on there now) & pocket protector (because the pens always seem to bleed on your new scrubs) it like $30 but worth Littmans are great but not cheap and unless your in cardiology you really only need a prestige a lot of folders for each class a good calculator for med math bp cuff if you can afford it (im a cna and have had mine for years, i mostly use it on fam and for school never took it to work) lots of ink for your printer I swear i print a good 25 pages per class a week of their power points and notes) Good luck I love my program and have found that your supply list grows as they add on stuff but these are some good basics for you.

Im doing fabulous:D!!! Im really enjoying myself, we start clinicals in a few weeks(after spring break) and I can't wait. i was kinda disappointed to find out this semester we can't pass meds, but now I really can't wait for the fall!!! Im cramming (not really ) for my tests next week in pharm, med math, and fundamentals. How is school going so far for you?
