LPN school starts Mon 2/7/2011, I'm scared.....

Published

I went to orientation last night and we have a pretty small class (approx. 21), everyone seems nice and eager to get started. I haven't been in school in almost 10 years and am VERY nervous!!!! Any words of wisdom or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also starting the lpn program but in New Britian. I too am doing the night classes, how has it been so far? I start my classes March 4,2012

i just started my lpn program january 9th and we are in a class of 19! it may seem scary for it to be so small right now, or weird for the classroom to be so empty, but it is going to be such a advantage for you guys! you'll be able to become such a tight knit family. i was nervous on my first day as well, orientation was exciting and overwhelming all at the same time! so far, i am surviving!

i'd suggest getting a 4+ inch 3-ring binder or two...i'm already running out of room in my 4inch. stay on top of your studies! the first tests are always the scariest. i have major text anxiety, so i did horrible on my first fundamentals exam, but i've bounced back since then! remember, whatever you make on the first exam, you can always come back from. do not overwhelm yourself with comparing your grades or knowledge to your classmates, it will just take away from your focus and success. only get in study groups that actually study together and are serious. it's rare to find one that actually studies when they're together, but there are a few out there, and it can be a great advantage for your grades and your skill check-offs!

let's see...if you are taking drug calc, even if you know how to solve the dosage problems on the practice pages, still do them all! it helps to overknow things!

pack your own lunch...being there all day and getting hungry gets expensive! lol

take deep breaths and when you feel you're getting overwhelmed keep your eyes set on your goal.

emotions are going to be out of whack for a while...mine still are. you'll be feeling many different emotions at once and it can be hard not to get overwhelmed, but class is so much fun and theory is so interesting, and you actually get used to studying and they way the teacher tests....it is all worth it!

let us know how it goes! you're going to be just fine! :)

Congratulations! You will be fine, we started out with 16 our first semester and now are in our 3rd semester and have five students left including myself.

You will do great, but you have to study hard, I work 40 hours a week and have kids, so it is possible. Read and take great notes and you will be fine.

You will get tired and you will get frustrated but once you start into clincals you will find how rewarding it can be. I honestly feel what a difference I make in someone's life, not everyday but alot of days!

Good luck to you as you are on your way to a wonderful rewarding career :)
