Lpn school with a 5 month old??

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hi, I am currently 19 and had plans on going to rn school but I recently found out I am pregnant. This was a huge surprise I most definitely wasn't ready for, but I've always wanted to be a nurse. Since I will be set back a little by having my child I want to get my feet wet and get in the work force asap. If I am accepted I will start the Lpn program next August. My baby will be five months then. Is this doable with a small baby? I really want to be successful and make something of myself. Plus I am currently living at home and becoming a Lpn would put me on my feet enough to get an apartment before bridging to rn school.

If you wait until the time is right, you may never go to school. Make sure you have good support for you and your child while you are going to school. You are going to need a babysitter who can watch your baby at about 5:30 in the morning on the days you have clinical. Make sure you have everything in place and ready to go by the time you start school. If you start out with your baby on a schedule, it will help you plan your days around his sleep schedule too for studying.

I went to school with lots of young women with babies and young children. As I said, make sure you have a good support system in place by the time you start school. Most LPN programs are 3 semesters. If there are prereqs your school requires, you can do those now.

In addition to the sage advice given by the previous poster, be mindful that LPN programs are not necessarily easier or less intense than RN programs. That is a common misconception.

Hows everything going op?

If becoming an RN is something you always wanted then you should go for it. Im currently in school for my BSN & started while my son was 5 months ! So trust me its possible. Will be graduating in May

Also make sure you check each program's hours as well. Usually LPN programs are 40ish hours a week. My LPN program was from 6:45a-3:15p, 5 days a week whereas an RN program near me is from 9a-3p, 3 days a week. The coursework will be intense either way you go.

It's doable.

When I started school a student in my class gave birth to her daughter 3 days before classes started.

Pffft im also part of the club here...my situations alittle more difficult tho. ..i have a 5year old about to start kinder and also have a 2month old baby im dreading the decision of going to lvn school because I know it going to be hard with little or no support at all from family and also very little income to rely on for daycare!!! Gosh now I realize life is hard without education!!

I was under the impression that RN required longer schooling than LPN?

I am also going for the LPN Program with a 4 month old baby. I think the best thing to do at this point is to take the long road. Take first the LPN then the ADN (RN) and then the BSN. Because you have to think that your child needs you specially in the first years of life. You are still young. Do not rush to do things because at the middle on the road you can get tired and you may ended up quitting. Good Luck.

Dear anything is my possible, i have to share my story. i got accepted 05/01/15 in the LPN program in NJ and i found out i was pregnant 3 weeks later. i didn't know how I was gonna do it or if i would be able to do it at all. I did. I started school 09/02/15 i was 20 weeks pregnant, my due date was on Jan 13, 2016. Imagine being 30-37-40 weeks pregnant, getting up at 5:30-6 AM going to clinicals:no:, challenging i did it with proud and courage. I made it every single day on time and i did not have any chauffeur. In the program they gave you 10 days for the 10-month to be absent;more than that you're in probation. I was praying that I gave birth during Xmas break because i was 37-38 weeks preg. but no . On Jan 13, 2016 @ 4:30 AM i had to rush to the hospital because i was having contractions, 8:45 PM I gave birth(V) to my baby boy; 7 days later i went back to school,I couldn't seat ,stoop up for many hours.

Long Story short I graduated July 21,2016 my baby was 6 months old.

I did not do it alone ,how could I? My GOD, My husband and my mother-in-law were right there to support me.

So you can do it, and you can never do it alone.

I hope my story was helpful. Good luck to you and may God bless you!!!!

P.S: I was an A,B student:yes:

They do. Both are difficult and intense in their own ways.
