Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

This topic has been around before, but I was looking for something more up to date. Things have fluctuated in past two years or so. I know people are always looking for salaries and most of the time its for RN's. I'll start ;-)

Around the Cincinnati area here I'm not sure about the starting pay or pay in hospitals for LPN's. But I know LTC facilities are about 16 to start ranging up to about 22. I've seen ad's in the paper saying $24 but I don't know what that was for. Agencys are about 21-25 dollars for LPN's also. I believe Jobs are plentiful around here! Also when I was up in columbus, I heard an instructor saying they are starting their LPN's out with $27-30 while the RN's get about $40-50 ..I don't really believe that, but I just tossed that out there maybe for some clarification?

Last year, hospital med-surg/acute rehab spinal/ortho - made $15 base and a couple more shifdif. Health Insurance 2/3 paid.

Past year - Hospice nurse - 19 no bens, $1 shif dif - Agency 19-23 in clinic, hospital, specialty.

Single insurance self-pay at 216 a month.

Wanting to move to San Antonio - anybody out there with info?

Greetings:

Well, I started out 3 years ago fresh out of technical school as a Med-Surg floor nurse at $8.50 an hour with a 1500 to 2300 shift-dif of $1.50 and a 2300 to 0700 shift-dif of $2.00. But over the years different people were hired in at lower rates but with higher shift-dif's etc. How payroll keeps track is beyond me. I will not complain about the money ever! In the area I am living this is still Fantastic money. Granted it's what I was making 15 years ago when I left Orlando and was working a union maintenance position. I currently work an ICU Telemetry postion and we were just given a merit raise of 3%. There is talk of a job status change raise for the LPN's if and when Techs are trained for our postions. (Read Incentive Pay). Our hopital as is the case everywhere is short on staff now and again and offers "Premium Pay", again we can not fathom the administrators: LPN's get time & a half plus $8.00 an hour while RN's get time & a half plus $10.00 an hour. This pay is still cheaper than paying Agency or Contract nurses to come in.

Thanks, R

New Grad, NJ : 17.25 base rate, weekend rate of 21.50....no shift diff...so guess who works all weekends.....yep me, but down at the very end of the Jersey Shore this is great pay....My friends in Drs offices are making 13$ and 15.50. BTMH from what I hear and Shore start LPN's around $15... But I love my facility (subacute/rehab/ltc) and know my license is safe there.

I was making nearly this ($28, I think) 2 years ago working for HRP in Aiken.

Im in NYC and a recent grad but i went on my first job interview yesterday with a facility in Staten Island.Though I am declining, I was offered $20 and change an hour plus a 10 percent night differiential.

My husband is a traveling MedTech, I follow him cause its easier for me to get a job.I worked in Decatur,IL hospital for 18 years, top pay $17.24. Phoenix,AZ as Registry LPN $20-25.00 an hour.

Cedar Falls,IA Agency $19-20.00.Hospital pay is $14-18.00 an hour.

I work in acute care and get paid 21.14 to start in Vancouver BC,Canada

I have a close friend in El Paso, TX who is a LPN/LVN and she was making $17-18 per hour. Recently was hired by a previous co-worker who knew the quality of her work and is paying her $24/hr. I think that amount is probably pretty high for the area, but obviously some places are willing to pay it. Plenty of jobs for nurses.

Hello. I was just fixing to post asking if anyone knew anything about El Paso when I came across your post. I think you responded to my E-mail several months ago about working in El Paso and I do appreciate it. I am half way through LPN school and we are hoping to transfer to El Paso at some point after finishing (God willing, I'm doing well thus far). Do you think it is possible for a new LPN to make at least $16.00/hour second shift LTC there? Also, I was wondering if your friend there spoke Spanish. One DON there told me she has nurses who speak no Spanish at all and she has no problem with this (this particular LTC seemed to have a majority Hispanic population). I was wondering if this was the norm or do most places hire only English-Spanish speaking nurses? Thanks again for your earlier reply.

Hello! I speak no spanish and my friend speaks minimal spanish. I think $16 an hour is very reasonable. White Acres on the westside is nice. SunsetHaven on the east-side of town is supposedly turning around. I think there is a place called Coronodo nursing home that really isn't very nice, but the wages seemed pretty high. El Paso Nursing home wasn't that nice at the time, but I believe they paid well. Don't worry about not being bilingual--there is a true shortage of nurses out there. Also, many SNFs use med aides that will free-up your time to perform other tasks. I would recommend living on the westside of El Paso if you would like to feel more comfortable about not speaking Spanish. Just exit Redd Rd. and drive up the hill in the direction of the mountain. I really enjoyed living there. The cost-of-living is quite reasonable and the people were friendly. Also, many facilities do have only Spanish-speaking residents but it's amazing how well you can communicat with just a few words, pointing and smiling :)

Does anyone work in a state facility? I am curious about what I can expect working at a state psychiatric facility. I probably would work there anyway if offered a position, regardless of pay (within reason) but I would like an idea anyway. :coollook: Any ideas?

Hi,

Just graduated lpn school and my best friend just got a great job in south jersey making 22 at a state psych hospital. EXCELLENT bennies! And the pay is not too shabby considering this is her first nursing job!!!!!!
