Many of my pts have their own way of saying thank you I love when I have a pt who doesnt speak any english and you finish caring for them and you hear them say thank you. It touches me each time. The other day I had a pt who has been in and out of the hospital and is now pallitive. He was unresponsive for a few days. Another nurse and I went to turn him.His family was at the bedside and he was awake. I was checking out his catheter and he hadnt seen me yet. He started to ask for me. His family said that I was there. He had a big smile on his face and grabbed my hand. I was so touched that he remembered me . It was all the thanks that I needed and it let me know that I was doing a good job. I had another pt say to me out of all the nurses you are the one I remember. These little things make you remember why you became a nurse. It encourages you when the shift gets rough. Thanks for everyone who shared their stories

I work on a medical unit. I also do pediatric home care. I work with 2 children one with a trach and one who requires peritoneal dialysis. I have been trained at BCCH.I love it, its a perfect variety for me

I had a pt who spoke very little english, but we still had a great relationship. Suddenly he took a turn for the worst he wasnt responsive and not eating.We were in the middle of turning him and I was talking to the other nurse. He all of a sudden opened his eyes and reached out to grab my hand. The other nurse was so shocked. I was touched , unfortunatly he passed the next day. But it taught me that u can still have an impact on someones life even without communicating.

Today was a typical hectic day and the unit coordinator tells me that she thinks I am a good nurse. She told me that i am nice to my pts and that it was good to see. It not only made my day but put a smile on my face .

Thanks for all your suggestions I do exercise regularly im finding that helpful. I was even thinking of starting yoga

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on holistic therapies for back pain. I get back pain from turning pts. I dont like to took too much advil but sometimes its necessairy. If there is any effective tx out there I will gladly try them out.

Oh do I i know what you are going through. I also work in med surg. I am a new grad LPN and my old ward overworked me to the max. I would go home stressed, sore, tired and some times in tears. It got so bad that another LPN complained to our CNL and change for the better was the result. Stand up for self, take time for yourself and get some sleep. In order to care for your kids and your pts you have to take care of yourself as well. Luckily for me I was able to transfer to another med surg ward where i couldn't be happier with. One time when my nephew was 2 years old, he was crying uncontrolably.My sister being a new mom freaked out , she assumed the worst and called the ambulance. I tried to consule her the best i could but it was no use. After he was examined he was dx with a temper tandrum.

Im a new grad and i work in a med surg ward and I love it. Sure it can be stressful and overwhelming but you can learn so much. Ive been able to utilize a lot of the skills that are learned in school. You just always have to expect the unexpected. :)

I just started working on a med/surg ward. I love it so far. Ive been able to utilize alot of skills that I have learned. I graduated in Sept. Theres so much to learn and its so fast paced the only down fall for me is I cant give out meds on this ward.Good luck on making your decision
