Is this average?

I had an appointment with an administrator of an LVN program in my area and found out the program will cost $25,000 including books, two scrub outfits etc. Is this normal? I'm fairly certain I will qualify for financial aide but the cost still concerns me because I will more than likely have to pay a portion of it. The chances of me getting a loan are slim and none as I just went through a divorce and my ex is letting our house foreclose.

How much is the average? This is the first of only two I know of in my area and the lady I met with wasn't very friendly. She was the kind that made you feel like she didn't really want to help you out.

I attended a private LVN school in Van Nuys, California last year and the tuition was $19,995. $18,000 to $25,000 is the prevailing price range for these private programs.

The lady you had met with probably was being unfriendly because there are many other applicants who will happily attend the school without asking too many questions.

I know this is off the subject, but your husband should sell the house and at least get a profit. You and your husband will still be responsible for paying the amount owed on the house if he just allows it to foreclose.

We got very close to the house loss when I was in Nursing School. The best advice I got was to ask for a forebearance where all we paid was the interest until I completed school. It's paid off now 30+ years later.

My son had a similar experience when he and his wife divorced, only he was advised to see if the loan could be assumed by a new buyer. He actually made a little money on that deal.

$18k for school is just amazing to me. Of course I have no idea what it costs nowdays. I simply wish you luck and strength and happiness.

Well, most people who would happily attend a school or anything else for that matter without getting the information they need are pretty stupid. Who would spend $25,000 without even knowing what they are paying for? I don't know if it's just me or what, but all of the posts I have posted you have posted back something either condescending or rude. And not to sound rude myself but I posted about my house forclosing to give insight as to what my credit looks like, not to get advice on selling it. My ex husband and I are both real estate agents, there's more to my situation than I've put on the internet as this is not the subject of converstion.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about you being condescending or rude, I know it's hard to get a feel for people's tone just reading what they have to say but I just had to put what I felt out there.

that seems a bit expensive to me. average LPN program in Pennsylvania is a little over $11,000. Every program might have their reasons for why its so expensive. I wish you well on getting in...:)

It is Expensive. in Az cost $ 8,000. and i thought they're are crazy.

Thanks for your replies ladies :) I thought it sounded a bit expensive, I guess everything in Cali is a bit more expensive though. I'll update as to whether I get in or not!

I am not going to bother with correcting you. After all, there's no possible way I would be able to correct your personal interpretations of my posts. There's no correct or incorrect interpretation.....

Take care..... ;)

Yes I think it is pretty expensive. The LPN program that I plan to go cost about 4,500.

Thats awful!!!!!!! Here in England nurses don't pay fee's and we get a bursary of about £5000 each year that we don't have to pay back.

I am paying about 23k for my program. Yes, it is expensive but I am going into a private progam with no wait list. For me at 24 I wasnt able to wait 3 years on a waiting list. Private programs tend to be ALOT more then community colleges BUT you will be in & out in about a year. You have to look at your situation & see what you want to do

I live in Denver Colorado
