First Day Jitters

Hey Everyone!

SO My first day is right around the corner. Tues Sept 7th, any one else getting the first day jitters? I've been out of school for about 6 years, I did complete cosmetology school, but realized quickly I love doing it on the side not as a career. Im excited to meet all the new peeps, and start digging in...

Out of curiosity what do you all plan on bringing the first day?

Tomorrow's my first day, and I'm a little nervous/excited too!

We had a two-day "class" last week that reviewed study skills, introduced nursing math, and gave us a chance to meet some of last year's class. It was nice to get to meet the other people in my program, but I think it made it so much harder to wait for the "real" first day!

I'm taking... checkbook; wallet; cellphone; messenger bag; pencil case with extra pens, pencils, a highlighter, mini stapler, and calculator; 3 ring binder with dividers and notebook paper; portfolio with 3-hole punched legal pad (my preferred method of note taking); spiral bound calendar/day planner; water bottle; and lunch.

We will be getting our syllabus and the first of our books tomorrow, as well as paying the first installment of our tuition.

My best advice: find something fun to do to keep yourself occupied for the next week!

I think Im going to be bringing, Pens, A one subject notebook (till i find out what I will and will not need for supplies) we have to pay for our parking which is 90.00 a semester, so i have to cough that up .. Or have my bf drop me off, that is only going to last so long....

This is my last week at my job, And the state fair is going on so i have that to ammuse my self... but it doesn't make waiting any easier. I really need to work on getting back to a normal sleep schedule so that my focus level is up to par. :jester:

I def. wouldn't take too much, until you know what you're actually going to want. I kind of got lucky, having our class last week. It clued me in as to how the program is going to work.

It really stinks that you have to pay for parking. I'm going to a local tech school, so parking is provided. I may have to pay to park for clinicals, but that will just depend on which hospitals we go to...

Have fun at the fair! I haven't been to one in a long time, that sounds like a lot of fun. And our weather has been perfect for something like that for the last week or so. Good luck getting ready, and enjoy your last weekend of freedom!

Thanks! The fair is okay, we went yesterday, they have a bunch of free concerts, this year its 30 seconds to mars, Lady Antebellum, Little big town, and coheed and cambria, all free shows at the fair. :yeah:PLus throw in a few wine slushies, and its the best.

Wow you guys have it easy... We had to take ALL of our books, supplies for note-taking, full syllabus, and of course lunch or lunch money... (started 8/23)

They went over the syllabus/course expectations for each course, during about the first 2 hours and then we moved right into the first Skills lecture... First skills check off was last week, second and third this week...

It was nice to dig right in, but overwhelming a bit... and geez ALL of the books in one bag makes for a HEAVY pack...

I start the same day as you do. I've been having first day jitters for the past week or so... It's been aggravated by the fact that my student loan won't be coming in until 3-5 days AFTER school starts... so, I've been kind of freaking out. I won't be able to buy books, scrubs (thankfully I already have a pair for skills), blood pressure cuff, bandage scissors, lab coat or shoes. I've managed to get some school supplies together, so I'll be able to take notes and what not, I just will be without reading materials. Thankfully, I have some good friends who are willing to let me photocopy the pages of books that we need to read. So hopefully I'll survive until my funds come in! I have orientation tomorrow, so I'm going to speak to the teachers and find out if they have some slightly older books kicking around that they might want to lend me. Best of luck to everyone on their first day! We're finally here!

We started yesterday, and actually didn't get the books for our first two classes until today (they didn't arrive on time). It put us a day behind in our classes, so our first exam (worth 20% of the course grade) is tomorrow, with two more tests and the final next week!

We only have one course at a time, so I only have to carry the books for whatever we're actually working on - hooray! They sure are big!!

I start on Tuesday. I'm DEFINITELY having the first-day jitters. I have 6 books and I REALLY hope we don't have to bring them all everyday! Before school started my teacher already assigned 3 chapters of A&P and 4 chapters in nursing!!! I am trying to enjoy this last weekend of freedom before I start the next 11 months of craziness!

The only advice i can give you is kiss your kids,husband-wife,boyfriend-girlfriend whichever relates to you because you wont spend much time at all with them if your in a 12 month program. Its very intense and there is always break-ups and divorces in an LPN/LVN program. You have to be 100% commited or you wont make it.It is alot harder than a University or community college, and having a 4.0 in highschool doesn't mean nothing now.Good luck and stay strong!!!

In about 24 hours, I will be heading to my first day of class. The time flew by so fast from when I got my acceptance letter to today! It seemed like the summer was going to drag on, and now all of a sudden, it's here :uhoh3: I have a permanent knot in my stomach, and I have no idea how I'm going to get to sleep tonight lol.

Lucky for us, the students were mailed a letter last week telling us what to bring for our first day (notebook, pen and pencil, and our completed summer homework assignment). So glad I don't have to lug the 100 lbs of books already lol.

Good luck to everyone!

I managed to fix up my student loan issues... so now, I'll be able to get my books before class starts on Monday (tomorrow!!). I'm starting to get nervous and excited and jumpy and all those other things. I've been driving my husband crazy from all my bouncing around. I just can't contain myself!! I've got so much nervous energy... tomorrow morning can't come fast enough!
