What was your LPN starting salary????

Nurses LPN/LVN

I am currently in school for LPN, I will not graduate until May of 2011 but I would like to know what is the average starting salary for a LPN fresh out of school. I have seen salary threads on here but nothing recently for a starting LPN salary. So can you tell me what was your starting salary, where do you live & what type of facility did or do you work for? How long did it take you to find a work? I know all these factors are what make up your pay. Also do you like your job?:) I currently live in northeastern PA. Thanks!!!

I started at 10.02 an hour, at a county owned facility- in 1994!!! My salary has almost tripled, I am the 2nd highest in seniority there!! 10 bucks at that time wasnt too bad!!

wow seeing all the starting pay is gettin me jealous. just started in a convalescent hospital in long beach,ca. Start at $18 but with no differential. (im working graveyard) given im a newbie lvn but still!
You are very lucky to have landed a job in the first place when you take into consideration the fact that you're a new grad LVN in the Los Angeles area, which is one of the worst nursing job markets in the country right now.

I live in Lancaster, PA. So we are sorta close.

My first job, I was being very picky and only wanted day shift. I got offered jobs second shift skilled for 26/hr. I declined, because like I said, I was being greedy with the shift.

So...I ended up taking day shift, no holidays, barely any weekends at a Dr's office. I got payed 12.00 an hour. It sucked. The job itself wasn't so bad. I got lots of injection and phlebotomy experience, but the pay sucked and I was doing the exact same stuff and got the same pay as medical assistants.

Now I am 1st shift assisted living, dementia unit, making 18.00/hr. I started out second shift there.

Bottom line, don't be picky. That was my big mistake. :p

Specializes in Homecare, Public Health.

$26/hr with $2.00 wknd diff - mix of 1rst and 2nd shifts at LTC & Rehab facility.

One year later 33/hr at another LTC & Rehab

I prefer my VNA job $30 a visit and a visit can be anywhere from 20 minutes to occasionally an hour, and paid mileage.

If you don't mind me asking, where was this in Lancaster? I'm close by and prefer 2nd/3rd shift.

That was a skilled nursing facility in Columbia, actually. It had a very bad reputation. I read an article in the Lancaster newspaper about the best and worst in the area and that nursing home was the worst rated. That was a factor as well.

Im also in Indiana. I became an LPN in 1989. My starting pay was $6.53 at the hospital. Other classmates hired in at the local long term care facility starting at $9.00. My how things have truly changed!!
