A Question For All Lvns...

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello to everyone! Does anyone know what types of government positions one might be able to land as an LVN, if any? Thanks!

I guess it depends on where you live but here they hire LPNs at the State Psych Hospitals and there is always the VA. Good luck, Jules

I was going to say any VA hospital, or even the local military hospitals tend to hire Nurse (LPN or RN) as they need the help! My hubby is army and i plan on applying at the base hospital when we get moved next month. The retirement packages ROCK, and usually most pay for your to continue your education!

You could work for the California Department of Corrections as a prison nurse. LVNs who work in CDC prisons start at $24 hourly and top out at $6,100 per month. Correct me if I am incorrect, but I believe that the California Department of Corrections counts as a state government agency.

There's corrections that pays killer money, just you have to work with the scum of the earth on a daily basis and wonder if your going to get shanked all the time. This was one of my options coming out of LVN school, and i turned it down. Although I held a degree in criminal justice, that just didn't sound all too appealing to me. Something you might think of as well, if your IV and phleb skills are honed, is working as a forensic nurse, that's something I'm currently shooting for, mostly you'd do DUI draws and under the influence draws for evidentiary purposes, but still, it's a way in and a pretty good paying job at that.

WOW..... that was a short course on government work LOL. Not an enviroment for new nurses or those faint of heart. But the benifets are good and the pay great. Good luck.

Some municipal hospitals are civil service positions, state psychiatric facilities, corrections, the VA hospital. Best of lluck! They usually have the better benefits!

You can look at state psych hospitals, but those in my state pay -- get this -- 21,000 a year. I couldn't afford it.

In my area, the prisons and LTC pay the highest.
