...and like that, all the dreams I've been dreaming about.... were shattered!

Nurses LPN/LVN

So four weeks from today I took the nclex-pn.... when I called the BON they said I should probably get it anyday now since it was sent out yesterday... to my surprise when I checked the mail the letter was there.... but I noticed it was a big white envelope.... I rushed my kids inside the house and ripped it open and it said: so and so HAS NOT PASSED.... and like that, all the dreams I've been hoping and dreaming about for this day to come.. were shattered.

I was an honoroll student in my nursing class... but I guess my nerves got the best of me that day. I'm ashamed to say I'm one of those people that failed at 85 q's..... I rarely saw any threads about peope failing at 85 just of people who've passed (which gave me a lot of hope that I too would pass).... but I guess I'm proof now that there are people that can fail at 85, I just never thought I'd be one of them.

MY head is pounding and my eyes are dry and burning from crying :crying2::crying2:... I guess It'll take sometime to get back on my feet... (I have gone through worse things... and this is just another bump in the road for me... another way of God challenging me because he knows I am a strong person and can overcome this).

any advice on how to study... I think I will try Suzanne's plan...

also the application for re-exam states I'd have to send a $75.00 check to the BON for Cali. and it takes approx. 3-4 weeks to process my application (does it really take that long?)... and then upon verification of my exam eligibility, is that when I can pay my $200 reg fee to retest again w/ pearson vue? Will the BON send me the exam eligibility via email like how they sent my ATT? or through mail??

I need some words of encouragment... I'm feeling very low right now. :o

Sorry to hear you failed. You have to wait a certain amount of time before you can resit the exam. If you are looking at Suzanne's plan then you have time to register and study. Once you have paid Pearsonvue they will send your ATT once hey get the OK from BON.

Good luck

It's ok. Sometimes the best of us goof up sometimes but this is not by any means a dream ender for you. (Don't you get like 12 chances to pass)

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't pass the first time around. Don't give up, not everyone passes on their first time. So, hold your head up high, and keep telling yourself that you'll pass it next time!

Best wishes, and please keep us posted. :)

Big deal! You failed so what!! Its not the end of the road. You did something commendable its called finishing pn-school! And that alone is a struggle. I'am still in pn-school so I don't really know what to study, but I did hear from friends nclex-pn from kaplan is great book. Good luck!!:heartbeat

i'm sorry to hear that you failed, but whatever you do, do not become discouraged! i highly recommend exam cram, i found that their practice questions were most like the nclex. good luck!!!

DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED! Being a good theory/clinical student does not automatically mean you will pass the NLCEX the first time. I know plenty of people who did not pass. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Be proud of accomplishing school. For studying I really like Saunder's review book. I'm sure you can find it for cheap on eBay or check it out at the library. You have to wait 91 days from the date on your letter I think. So get back on it (:

Take some time to be disappointed and then get back in the ring! You got nervous this time and that can happen to anyone. The good news is that all you have to do is get studying, wait a bit until they say you can re-test and do it again. Hang in there and know that the hardest part of this journey, school, you have already passed. Please keep us posted. Hugs, Jules

I am so sorry to hear this; I was keeping track of you, watching you wait, so to speak. Like Jules said, take a bit of time to grieve, and then, get back and study again. Not everyone passes the first time, and it could have been nerves! Sitting there, seeing that 'this is IT" could have done a number to your brain. Nonetheless, it does not mean that you are not a bright person. I wish you the best, keep us posted and send a note when ever you want to vent.

You have came to far to be discouraged. Get prepared for your next test and just stay calm and try to relax a little. I know it is hard sometime cause sometimes we as people get test anxiety that is normal I think. Next time you will knock that test right out the box and keep it moving no need to worry. You have done one of the biggest steps already completed Practical Nursing School so hats off to you for that. Good luck to you for your next test and all your quest that you want to achieve in life!

I just wanted to say thank you all for your kind words of support and encouragement! :heartbeat

I cried a lot yesterday. But I surrounded myself w/ my significant other and my kids (had A LOT of hugs) which helped a lot. Today I am feeling better and more confident than ever (does that sound crazy after just one day?). In time I will feel ready to step into the ring again to beat my component (the ncelx-pn). Afterall, Rome wasn't built in one day.

I have printed out a calendar for the month of June, July, and August and made a schedule for my study plan to stick to. I calculated when my 45 days are up which will be July 11th (since I last tested may 27th). From then I can send my application for my re-exam and on top of that wait another 4 weeks to hear back from the BON (after verification of my eligibility to re-exam). Lastly, I can send my registration form and pay the $200. That already gives me 6 weeks to study from now (which is not including my next appt date, which can take another 1-2 weeks depending on if there are any available appts). But of course I will see how I feel if I am ready to test after 6 weeks and if I'm not ready I can always reschedule in a week or 2, etc...

I plan to do 100 q's from Saunder's Q&A book 5x a week (giving myself the weekend off to relax and be with my family) which is 500 q's a week (while reading all rationale's and taking notes on the q's I got incorrect), so that's 3000 q's in only 6 weeks. On top of that I plan to order Kaplan's QBank which is $109 (USD) not bad! and I figure it will be a good investment.

I've never tried practice tests such as Kaplan where it gives you a % to see how well you are doing in a certain area and since I've heard so much good things of people passing using kaplan after failing their 1st or 2nd try, I thought I should give it a shot. I also tried kaplan's sample qbank and felt it was similar to the nclex q's.

Now that I've already taken the nclex I know what to expect and I will not be so nervous because I already had a feel for the test. I WILL NOT, and I say again, WILL NOT let my nerves get the best of me this time! Also, I now know what areas I was more weak on and what I need to focus more on.

I am just grateful for the chance to try and pass this test, no matter how many tries I WILL NOT GIVE UP. Quitting is NOT an option for me. If I could survive nursing school, I can survive this! With God's help by my side along w/ the kind words of encouragement and motivation from you all and support of my family, I KNOW I CAN DO THIS!!

I will keep you updated on my journey to become a nurse, because I know one day I will be the BEST DAMN NURSE I CAN BE! :D How's that for confidence... I'm not gonna let you (ncelx) get me down!
