Well I guess I am considering lowering my sights and going for an LPN with a facility who will perhaps help me get my RN later down the line. What is the job outlook in Oklahoma for LPNs? Are there many LPN jobs for the L/D unit? I know that RNs have more education and can do asessments and IVs, but what is the real difference between LPN and RN? Will I basically be doing all the grunt work and getting paid less for it? Please don't be offended if you are an LPN! I am just grouchy because I don't have enough time to go to school for an RN degree.
Thanks for all the help girls!

sorry cant help with the question but for future ref. were not all girls.
I am confused??? Did I say somewhere that all RNs are female?
Thanks for all the help girls! is what you said. Im just messing with you though. From what I have gathered so far RN do more of the paperwork and LPN's do more pt. care. at least that is how it is in the Hospice that I work at. hope that helps.
ahhh!!! I see...lol...sorry!
No prob. I reread your post and LPN can do IV's as well as assessments. I am a student LPN currently going to work with Hospice as well as Mental Health. I live in Tulsa.

I would like to add one thing to not only what is the job outlook for LPN in Tulsa Oklahoma, but what about the pay rate for LPN in Oklahoma?
Thanks
$35,860 looks to be the base salary in the tulsa area.

There is a difference, btw, between an LPN and an RN. The biggest difference is the salary of course. There is also a difference in the level of skills. For example, ICU nurses do more than a nurse out on the floor, where as you will not find LPN's in an ICU evironment. I am an LPN and work in a hospital out on the floor and my goal is to reach the next level of nursing by returning to school and bridging over in an LPN to RN program.

You'll be able to find jobs in the LTC facilities more readily than in a hospital setting. According to one user on here St. John is applying for magnet status and will be hiring more RN's. On the other hand, Hillcrest had several job openings for LPN's as of last week.
I don't think that there's anyone in Tulsa who will hire LPN's for L&D or NICU. Correction, from what I hear, there is one LPN in the NICU at St. Francis, but she was grandfathered in after her extensive experience in the Navy.
Hope this helps. I don't know what starting salary is for an LPN.

Some of the floors at St John are trying Team nursing, where they have a RN, LPN, and CNA on each team and they take 6-8 patients. If they had the proper staffing, this might not be a bad idea, but most of the time it doesn't seem like they have enough staff to do this. But my point is that they are trying to have some LPNs on the team. Not a lot of job openings listed on the hospital website for them yet, but they're still trying to figure out what they want to do for magnet status I think. Who knows!

I am an LPN student right now and I get really confused about salaries. I hear $13-17 an hour which is a salary range of $21k to $27k. I look at OU Tulsa's website for jobs at Employment Opportunities and I see the lowest paying LPN job is $20k and the highest is $32k.
Buckyx where did you see $35,860? Is that with benefits? Thanks!
