LPN job outlook in Tulsa???

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Well I guess I am considering lowering my sights and going for an LPN with a facility who will perhaps help me get my RN later down the line. What is the job outlook in Oklahoma for LPNs? Are there many LPN jobs for the L/D unit? I know that RNs have more education and can do asessments and IVs, but what is the real difference between LPN and RN? Will I basically be doing all the grunt work and getting paid less for it? Please don't be offended if you are an LPN! I am just grouchy because I don't have enough time to go to school for an RN degree.

Thanks for all the help girls!

I just wanted to give a little update on St. John's status with LPNs. They have been having "LPN Town Halls" to give LPNs a chance to hear about their future with the hospital. Basically, LPNs are currently practicing out of their scope of practice (probably at most hospitals) and they are trying to get that under control. For the time being they will not be hiring any LPNs, although I'm told there is still a chance of being hired if you are already employed and have a manager who is willing to take you (but this may change soon as well.) Apparantly the LPN-RN ratio is way out of balance, especially on evenings and weekends. They are offering to pay for pre-reqs now as well as tuition for actual nursing programs for the LPN bridges for current LPNs to get to the RN.

Let me know if anybody has questions about this!
