**(this is the email i got back from ISU regaurding their LPN to BSN degree, and approved states)***some one may want to sticky this!

Thank you for your interest in Indiana State University's distance programs. The LPN to BSN program is a bachelor degree-completion program via distance learning .

Please visit the College of Nursing web site at http://www.indstate.edu/site/nurs/891.html for further information about the LPN to BSN program.

ISU has an exclusive contract with The College Network so as to provide the study guides for the initial phase of the program. There are three phases to the LPN-BSN Track.

Phase I are Gen Ed requirements that will need to be completed with The College Network or a local college in your area. When acquiring Gen Ed requirements, 50 credit hours need to be at a 300 or 400 level course. Some of these courses are available at ISU. If you have a previous degree, some or all of the credits may transfer into the College of Nursing. After completing Phase I you then apply to ISU http://www.indstate.edu/join_us/admissions.htm. You will then fill out a second application with the College of Nursing http://www.indstate.edu/site/nurs/pdfs/con-admission-application.doc

Enrollment requirements include: (due by Nov 1st for Spring Semester) (due by June 1st for Fall Semester)

These entrance copies will be kept in your file at the College of Nursing/Student Affairs Office, 749 Chestnut St., Room 328, Terre Haute, IN 47809. All nursing courses are completed online. Even though the courses are online and self-paced, they are within the traditional Fall and Spring semesters and taught by on-campus faculty members.

Then clinicals will be done in the state where you reside, with a preceptor at a local facility. This link is the FAQ (frequently asked questions) for the delivery of clinical education for the LPN-BS Distance Education Track: http://www.indstate.edu/site/nurs/pdfs/faq-lpn-bs-clinical.pdf

The problem here is TCN and ISU both assured me that Texas was a accepting state. Now there is no way I am putting myself through all that hard work only to travel to take the NCLEX in another state and then wait for Texas to accept it ,which they may and then they may not. I would rather know in the begining that my school is accepted by Tx.

May this can clarify things for you:

The Texas BNE does not approve ANY out of state nursing programs of any kind. They only regulate and approve nursing schools in Texas. So you will never get an approval from Texas for an out of state school.

But this is where it gets confusing:

As long as the school is approved/accredited for RN licensure by another state board, TX will allow licensure either by exam or endorsement.

So you shouldn't have to go to LA for a license and then endorse into TX.

(BTW, even if you did need to get a LA license first, no need to travel, you can take the NCLEX in TX near your hometown even if getting a LA license.)

This is why ISU doesn't have Texas on their approved list, yet they claim that Texas accepts their graduates for RN licensure. ISU is most likely correct in that Texas will accept ISU grads for licensure, but I would call the BNE to be sure.

Below was taken from the TX BNE website. It named Excelsior as a specific example because Excelsior, being located in NY and approved by the NY BNE for RN licensure, would make it acceptable for licensure in TX, but I think that ISU applies here as well since ISU is approved in Indiana and other states:

"The Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (BNE) does not approve/accredit out-of-state nursing education programs, including correspondence/on-line courses/programs. The BNE only approves and regulates nursing education programs in the State of Texas. Texas does recognize graduates from pre-licensure nursing education programs that are approved/accredited by other State Boards of Nursing as eligible to apply to take the NCLEX examination(s) and apply for licensure in Texas. Excelsior College is one of these programs. Excelsior College is approved by the New York State Board of Nursing and graduates from that program may apply to take the NCLEX-RN Examination in Texas or any other state and apply for licensure as a registered nurse in Texas."

Hope that helps with your decision and good luck!

I know this and dont know why i am freaking out. i am re-evaluating my thinking on this program and have infact just requested info from them. They actually have a clinical site in my area and this has somewhat re-newed my faith.

what do they do as far as a final exam for clinical? Excelsior has a CPNE. Is the CPNE for everyone doing distance or is it only for Exclesior? Also, where do you test for your CPNE if you go to Indiana State Univ? Do you test at the facility where you are completing your clinicals? Please help!

No CPNE. It is done through a preceptor-per the first post of this thread. If ISU isn't approved then Regis is (regis.edu). Just transfer your credit.

The college network has the partnership because it makes it cheaper and quicker. Get a hold of a person from the college network and drill them to death and see exactly how it works. It is pretty slick if you're dead set on never going back into a classroom.

Hi,

I'm just checking to see if anyone has any more updates on how this is going. Anyone know how hard it is to find a preceptor? Thanks, Jules

Hi, new to the board.

I have been with The College Network since 4/2005. I've gotten almost all of my prereqs out of the way and will be starting the CSMs in Spring 2007. so far I've been fairly pleased. The only trouble I've had so far is feeling like I'm not getting complete info from ISU.

But, overall I think it will be a great route to get my BSN done!

Let me know if the program sounds good. I live in DFW as well and am very interested in getting my BSN.

I am a Senior Program Advisor with The College Network and Texas is still pending their decisions on whether to approve the LPN-BSN program through Indiana State University. So, until it is approved, it will remain on the "pending" list.

More and more states have approved the program that are not on the above list...for example Florida now approves it.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me.

You talk about ISU are there anyothers out there that don't have that many prerecs? What about IstudySmart?
