I just found out tonight I'm starting this August!! I swear it feels like a dream; I never thought I would get in. There are about 500 names for 44 spots and it's done by lottery. This is my first time applying and I GOT IN!! I've never won anything in my life and this totally makes up for it~lol.

Kristin,
Thanks for the info. I am SO happy we have Mondays off! Whoo hooo! 6:45 am clinicals...yikes! But that's ok because i would rather do it early in the am anyways. I hope to go to the school maybe next week to register? Yeah, driving to the school will be fun. LOL! So they said they mailed your packet and you still haven't received it? Wow. I wonder what happened? Well, at least you are finally going to get it. I am not sure what hospital/s we will be doing clinicals at. I want to say CHO for peds, and some where in Martinez for Psych rounds, right? I could be way off. I don't remember where else? Do you know? Anyways, hope you are having a good holiday with you family! Oh, Happy 4th of July! Talk to you soon! =)

sooo, i called to get my packet and was told they would be there until 3:00. i got there at 2:15 and they were gone still no packet for me!! grrr, i'm getting irritated! anyhoo...
we will do clinicals at both sutter delta and deer valley kaiser in antioch, john muir concord campus and walnut creek campus, and kaiser walnut creek. they usually do cho, but my friend told me she didn't know if we would be there this year; apparently they're not too fond of the students being there and it was a waste of everyone's time? also, they do county hospital in martinez, although my friend never ended up having to go there. do you live far from campus?
Kristin,
WHAT?! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with their shenanigans! I don't blame you, I would be totally annoyed. Argh! How are your summer classes going? Hmm, so CHO doesn't want us (students)? That's ******. LOL. O'well. Yeah, I live far from all out clinical sites. I live near Contra Costa College, but at least the am commute i will be going against traffic. I worked in Concord a few years and the drive wasn't too bad, but Antioch is a lot further..just have to deal with it.
-Stephanie
definitely good you are going against traffic :) without traffic, antioch is only another 10 or 15 minutes past concord. the farthest for you will be kaiser deer valley. luckily, it will only be two days a week! on school days, it will probably take us the same amount of time to get to campus~lol. i'm not that far away, but the traffic is horrible! i also have to drop my kids off at school on campus days.
since cho is so far for me, i'm almost hoping we don't have to go there~lol. i would like the peds experience, but my friend said they didn't do or learn anything there at all; it was a waste of time
Kristin,
Did your packet yet? I hope so. A friend of my finished nursing school (@ a different school) and she said nothing but great things about Kaiser Deer Valley. The staff enjoy having students at their facility and the nurses were so so nice. I am looking forward to having clinicals there *hopefully! Oh, I think I will make my way to campus tomorrow to finally register! Whoo hooo! Do you know if we have an option of choosing what section for nursing skills (RNURS- 023) Which one did you register for? Also, would you happen to know how much the 'book bundle' costs? I assume it would be way cheaper to purchase the books online or something. I think you said your friend gave you her books, right? From I have heard from other students (@ different schools) is that it is not worth getting the bundle because you end up having to purchase other books anyways. so many things to do...and the clock is ticking! Talk to you soon! =)
-Stephanie
Nope, still no packet!! It's almost funny at this point Good thing I'm registered, or else I would be thinking I wasn't really in the program~lol. There was a choice for RNURS-23 and I chose the early one (it was just easier because it was right after the previous class), but I noticed that class is now filled. Although, my friend told me that a lot of the time, the instructor just did all the students together in the early class
When I went in, I was walking around the department, checking out the classes...and I was so excited! I did take a medical terminology class that was held in the department, but I'm so glad to finally be a student there! I just hate that it's SO old looking, they definitely need an update~lol. They opened a new science building that's so nice; they need to move the nursing department there!
No, definitely do not buy the bundle!! I am getting most of the books from my friend, but there's one (the most expensive, of course!) that she sold back. The funny thing is, she told me she barely used her books! I've gotten most of my text books from abebooks.com for super cheap, so I will be using them again. Is the textbook info in the packet? Or maybe I just need to go to the bookstore to see what I need and then order online? That's what I did with my science classes.
I'm nervous about next Saturday~lol. I'm glad I get to bring my family with me. I'll be the one with 4 kids and in scrubs (I'll be coming straight from work)~lol :)
Kristin,
I am officially registered! Yippeee! LOL! OMG, I can't believe you still haven't received your packet yet! Argh! Well, if you want I could fax the info to you. If so, just let me know. I went to admissions, walked around campus and saw where classes will be held. Oh, the woman in admissions was so so so very nice! I agree, the building is out-dated and kind of maze-like too. lol. There was no one in the nursing department, so i took my time and walked around; peeked into skills lab room and i got SO excited! :) I went to the library; it's really nice...it's huge! Oh, and i also saw the ducks and geese! I thought they were cute, but then i realized how huge they were! lol! Anyways, I went to the book store and they won't have any books or information until the first week of August. The guy literally had no info., no pricing or titles, etc. Ugh! The only info the packet included was about purchasing the 'bundle' and had 1x1" photo and 8 or 9 books that we'll be using, some of which i could not make out the Author's (Elvsiers publishing or something). I wish they would have giving us the ISBN numbers (i think that's what it's called). I didn't go into the Science building, but I will def. check it out next time. You would think that they would have included the nursing department into the new building, but i guess not. Apparently they are doing construction...expanding for 400 more parking spaces. Well, I will look forward to meeting you and your family next Sat! OMG, the clock is ticking....and it's official! Talk to you soon.
-Stephanie
Yes, thank God for the extra parking! It's horrible parking there...definitely give yourself an extra 20 minutes to park, no joke! I'm sure I will be so excited on the first day, I'll be there at 7:00 am~lol. I checked the online bookstore and found two of the books we need that aren't in the bundle; a drug book and lab/diagnosis book. Here are the ISBN #'s if you want to look them up:
0-8036-2309-7
8-8036-1826-3
Those are both required. I guess I'll have to take a trip down in early August to write down all the ISBN numbers in the bundle. No way am I paying the bookstore prices!! 5 weeks from today we will be in class!! I know another girl that is alternate #8 that was accepted, so they are working their way down the alternate list. I'm just so happy to be registered and 100% ready to go. I STILL can't believe it; it's almost like I'm waiting for someone to tell me there's been a mistake~lol. Oh, and I have a friend that said there are required online modules that she's been working on. Have you started yours?
Sorry to keep rambling on about school. I just know that you can understand where I'm coming from with my excitement! I think my family and friends are tired of hearing it Oh, what are you planning on getting for shoes? I know they are supposed to be white, does it say anything else about them? I have plain white Nikes, but I think I want to look into some specialty nursing shoes.
My husband had to go to the ER last night and I was checking out everything the nurse was doing and wearing~lol. She had the same stethoscope as me, except in a different color It was weird to think the next time I am in there, it will be during our rotation!! The nurse and doctor were super nice. Ok, off to check my mail and hope my packet is in there~lol.
BTW, I went to try on our uniforms today so that I know which sizes to order next Saturday. The pants are SO not cute~lol. I love my scrub pants I wear to work; they are boot cut, low-rise and fit well. The pants we need for school are unisex and are super high rise. I got a good laugh at myself in the mirror~lol. Oh, well, we'll all look silly together...at least we will be RN STUDENTS!! :)
Hey does anyone know which version of the teas test lmc is using? Im trying to find the right study guide. Thanks
You may want to call the nursing department and ask what they will require for next year. I had taken TEAS IV back in January and they accepted my score. I know now that TEAS V is also an option, so I'm not sure if they will require that next year or not. Sorry I can't be more help!
