Los Medanos ADN program Fall/2015

Published

Hello All,

Starting a thread for all of you who have applied to Los Medanos for the fall 2015 ADN program. I submitted my application for the program back in February. I recieved a recipt saying that they recieved my app. Then last week I recieved a letter in the mail saying that all my pre-reqs have been approved and that they will make announcements as to which students get in I believe in May this year. Who else has applied? Any students that are currently in the Los Medanos program please feel free to leave any advice

Thank You

Thank you.. I will be dropping down to part time.. Did you have to place any IVs?

I must brush up on them. Only placed 2 in last couple years

There will be opportunities, all depending on your unit and nurse. Generally, it's pretty scant- if you're ever in the ED that will be your best bet so always jump at the opportunity. In the skills lab it's one of the checkoffs so you can practice on mannequin arms as well.

What were your clinical hours? I hope to eventually work at John Muir í ½í¸Ší ½í¸Š.

Thank you so much for the info.. I really appreciate it

Good morning,

Has anyone received a message back from Los Medanos after completing the background check and submitting the forms?

I had day shifts, so 0645-1445 (includes post conference). 4th sem you'll go the entire shift and give report. There might be night shifts, I think they go from 1430-2230?

Good morning,

Has anyone received a message back from Los Medanos after completing the background check and submitting the forms?

Hi Melissa,

I have received a text and an email that I passed my background check, but haven't got a reply from the program. I'm still working on my physicals and immunizations as well. Any word from the program yet?

I did about a year of school nursing when I was accepted to the nursing program. I graduated 2013, so my skills were still fairly fresh in my mind, any longer and I wouldn't have remembered anything! They do recommend you cut your hours down to part time if you plan on working while in the program. I quit my job, but I was fortunate enough to have family/financial support so I could completely focus on my studies. It was tough even then, but if you're committed it's possible- you just HAVE to make the time to study!

Hi mm0828,

I plan on cutting down my hours too, so I'm definitely going to depend on FAFSA to help me out. I was wondering, did you have experience how the payment plan will be using FAFSA?

I've applied for the year 2015-2016 already and was qualified for school loans and fee waivers. Now I don't know what to do next. I emailed a FAFSA LMC counselor, but I have a feeling they're going to ask me to meet them in person. I'm currently 1.5 hours away, and I'm trying my best to avoid a lot of driving back and forth so much. When the program starts, I'll be moving nearby which will be about 30 minutes away.

I just really want to know how the student loan works with the nursing program because I've never pulled out a school loan before. And what do I have to do on my part? If you didn't have any experience with this it's fine. I just hope the counselor can answer me via email so I don't have to drive all the way there haha!

Thank you for your time to help everyone out!

Hi ccamaliza,

I totally understand your pain about distance, I commuted to and from Sacramento while in the program. Your car and pocket will be glad to be a little closer! My FA advisor was very helpful through e-mail in answering my questions. I know there's different advisors depending on last name, so I can't speak for all of them. I too, was eligible for BOG and Pell grants, but I didn't follow through with more loans. I know for sure the Pell was dispersed in 2 payments during the semester, not sure about the loans. I believe the college website has a financial calendar that gives you an idea.

I was looking into a private loan to help with expenses while I wasn't working; I already had outstanding debt with Sallie Mae, but found out they didn't work with LMC so that didn't work out. I couldn't find any private lenders that worked with the college unfortunately. But a general word of advice with the student loans is to try and pay your interest fees as you go along, even though you're not required to pay anything while you're a student. Once you graduate you'll have a grace period between finding a job (usually 6 months, unless you enroll part time in more courses and can defer payments) to start paying them back. And do well in school (as you probably already know) because you GPA determines your eligibility.

I hope I was able to clear some of it up for you. Keep the questions coming, I'm only studying for my boards and going crazy so this is a nice little outlet =P

Hi Charlene,

Hope all is well. I actually received an email from Beth Ann that I was granted permission to enroll in my classes (after she received my background check clearances), which I have done so already. I emailed Beth Ann back and told her that I received confirmation from Immunitrax that all my health and vaccine records were also received. No word from her after that yet, I did receive an invite for the meet and greet on July 22nd. Are you or any one on here attending? Excited to meet you all.

Are you in the lvn to rn transition group or RN program?

I have taken out Federal Stafford Loans before and the rates are alot better than private loans.

Hello Melissa!

Yea, I havent received any response from Beth yet about class registration. I have yet to complete my physicals. I have not received any email about the meet and greet :( i am part of the LVN-RN program. I'm excited to meet you all as well!

I'm sure you will here from her and the school soon. í ½í¸Š...

Yes! I just checked my email and I received the approval for registration! :)

Hi I have a question for you. As crazy as it is I have not done a cpr class before. I'm just wondering if you know if we are supposed to have two separate cpr certifications the acls and bls or is just one sufficient enough? Or is there some place where they offer them together?
