Hello All,
Starting a thread for all of you who have applied to Los Medanos for the fall 2015 ADN program. I submitted my application for the program back in February. I recieved a recipt saying that they recieved my app. Then last week I recieved a letter in the mail saying that all my pre-reqs have been approved and that they will make announcements as to which students get in I believe in May this year. Who else has applied? Any students that are currently in the Los Medanos program please feel free to leave any advice
Thank You
If you guys wanna save money I'd recommend waiting- the SNA/Class officers will more than likely look into packaged deals for ACLS/PALS cert classes to take either during spring break of 2nd yr or after the program is done. Lots of places will charge $200+ per class, we were able to get an insanely great discount for $200 (packaged deal for ACLS & PALS, books included). A lot of times places will give better rates for groups. Even though they're not required at all during the program, having them on your resume by the time you apply for a job is a plus.
Hi! Mind sharing what books were actually used for the 2nd year? And also, were the LMC scrubs used for every clinical or any colored scrubs can be worn? Thank you!
Hey Mariaaami-
It'll kinda depend on your learning style, but since I relied heavily on lecture recordings I barely touched the books. I'm not entirely sure about your Skills course as it'll be a different instructor. A few people I know got away with purchasing older editions for much cheaper. I will say purchasing the book bundle can be a plus if you study with a laptop or computer since you can get the e-versions of the text. 4th semester I did actually do quite a bit of reading when we covered Psych because the instructor tested on some content in the book.
As far as scrubs, the LMC scrubs are required for your Med-Surg clinicals. Psych scrubs in 4th sem you will wear business casual. You can wear your regular scrubs for your preceptorship (unless it's in Psych) as well as Peds rotation (bright, fun scrubs are encouraged!)
In total, I believe 21! It was a huge amount due to grants that were awarded. I didn't think I had a chance as I was told they typically took 8-12 LVNs and I was waitlisted at 15. I think there were 36 LVNs in the applicant pool and they called me pretty late asking if I was still interested since I didn't even submit my conditional acceptance forms. One girl didn't get a call til a few days before class. It all depends on their funding/grants.
I applied to SF city and Mission College in Santa Clara. I was accepted to both, but SF city fell through as I didn't submit EVERY single transcript from colleges I attended. So if you applied there be cautious, they'll look to see which colleges you've attended even for pre-reqs/VN certificates.
Good luck! LMC is an EXCELLENT program!

So for anyone who reads this and got freaked out about having to take the acls cpr course, i got even more clarification from beth today. She talked to the program director and he/she said that we only need the bls cpr, the acls is recommenced but not required to enter into the program. Sorry for any confusion.
