I am planning to take a Saturday anatomy class for prereq at LASC b.c. all the other colleges are completely packed. Well, I'm not enrolled yet but the admissions people said to come 30 minutes before the first day of class, and the professor will most likely let me in. I plan on going an hour early b.c. I desperately need this class. I don't want to sound disrespectful of people in that area, but I was wondering how dangerous the area is. It's an 8am to 2:30pm class...so it was be during daytime. Also I know professor -------- is popular for anatomy but I will most likely take it with ------. How intense is the anatomy class? I am also a third year full time student at a 4 year university right now. So...yea this year is going to really kick my butt...I'm ready though! Please let me know how your experiences LASC were! Thanks!

LASC is a good school. I took the Saturday anatomy and physiology classes. Both Saturday instructors are great. I have not had any problems. The classes are intense, but study to get through.

I am not yet enrolled in the class yet but if I show up on the first day early and wait...do you think the professor will let me in? The class is not full yet according to the website. It just won't let me enroll...logistical/technological issues. Are the classes super full? Can you explain a bit more about the anatomy class..like assignments, tests, work load? Thank you! I'm nervous b.c. I'm a full time student at a university also.
I showed up the first day for Anatomy and got an add slip. Make sure you show up the first day and be on time. There is a test or quiz every week, but you have a good idea of what will be on the exams. The instructor hands out plenty of handouts and there are powerpoints every week. Make sure you know your powerpoints. Maybe I will see you on campus in February. I made flashcards of all the powerpoints and drilled myself to death. It paid off. I got an "A." We also wrote two papers. You can choose any topic covered or in the text, but he must approve your articles before hand. If you study everyday you will be fine.

I just got accepted to the nursing program at Southwest for fall 2010. I have to have faith in this program because I applied to 6 schools and 5 sent me letters saying I was NOT accepted. So despite whatever reputation this school has I am going to make the best of it. I am actually excited I got in

Hey Congrats on getting in somewhere! I think that's an accomplishment no matter where it is. I am also applying to a TON of schools for the spring and I'm going wherever I get accepted. When did you apply? Did you have to wait at all? Congrats again on getting accepted!
Socalpeach,
I applied this spring for fall. The deadline was March for most schools. I am not sure what your area is but if you are in the Los Angeles area, don't forget about Harbor, LACC, Trade Tech, Santa Monica (if you don't mind a little travel,) and Rio Hondo. There is also of course Southwest.
Today was my 1st day of orientation, I don't think its gonna be so bad. I am truly excited. Good Luck to you!
Domarera,
Thanks for the info. I am applying to ALL of the schools that you listed and a few others. I live in MDR, so Santa Monica is ideal, but the waitlist is 2-3 semesters. I am determined to get in SOMEWHERE for the spring. Has your program at LASC started yet? How was the orientation? Did they seem organized and professional? I got a little worried when I went to the information session, but I feel like it can't be too bad if its accredited... Please keep me informed on your experience! Where all did you apply, if you don't mind sharing...
Congrats again on getting in, its exciting! I can't wait for spring!:)

Southwest nursing program is the most messy unorganized unhelpful place ever. They never know whos teaching the class. they dont even know what time the class is gonna be held weeks before it is to start... Its basically independant study and ill see u at the test.... I wish i went to a more structured nursing program because i feel no one is ever sure of what their talking about. Horrible communication to students and we just wander aimlessly trying to figure things out.......
Socalpeach, sorry for the late response. After the orientation we were whisked into bootcamp so, I got super busy. So far I am enjoying the experience in bootcamp we learned vital signs, physical assessment and did all of our requirements for the program i.e. physical, drug testing, insurance and uniform and book ordering. The orientation seemed a little disorganized but for a good reason, the director of the program was teaching it for the 1st time, overall it was fun and informative. I think she will be better next go round. We are doing our 1st semester clinicals at Kaiser I am sooo excited. We start on the 30th, and besides being nervous I am just anxious.
The only other schools I know of are Cerritos, Golden West (OC) LA County Nursing Pgm.
Good Luck to you and I promise to re-cap throughout the program.

Hi domarera,
I recently got into the LASC.
And I was wondering how their program is. I really have no expectations, but kind of worried of the structure of the school. But willing to pursue it no matter what. Please let me know how your first semester went. Thank You, really appreciate it.
Hey Trailmixers, If you are going into bootcamp this summer we will meet soon then. As of Fall I will be going into 3rd semester at LASC. I can say it is truly an experience. I can not compare it to other schools because I have not been to any other school, but sometimes there is frustration with scheduling of classes or clinical. Since I have started it has gotten better. Our class really speaks up and they seem to listen so hopefully by the time you start all the kinks have been worked out. Administration really tries hard to get you ready for NCLEX, we have mandatory ATI tests every 8 weeks and hey also have been paying a portion for the students to go to Kaplan for Test prep.
My suggestion to you while your in the program is to read ahead, study hard and form a study group that is diverse so that you all will bring ideas to the table. It is all about CRITICAL THINKING. It can be fun too though, Good Luck!
