  1. Congrats to everyone who got in! It sucks that there aren't enough slots for everyone, especially after working so hard to finish school. Good luck to you all, thanks for the info Jelly. Are you allowed to continue working as a Nurse Tech even though you are finished with school?
  2. Jelly221: hey, I tried to send you a PM, but I'm not sure if it actually worked. I just wanted to know if you have any suggestions for getting hired at Torrance for a nurse tech position. I can't seem to find any info and I am really interested. I'm still a student, so I figure it would be a good learning experience for me... please let me know any secrets you can share! Good luck with the residency! (To everyone! its so competitive out there...)
  3. Hey, I am a flight attendant (and nursing student). Our airline procedure is that NO ONE can open the enhanced emergency medical kit other than a medical doctor--and we are supposed to see ID before turning it over. Even when MedLink is called (and they are called for everything), that's the policy. We recently had an incident on board with a paramedic who volunteered to help us, he was not authorized to open the kit and we had to divert. I was under the impression that this was standard airline/FAA protocol...
  4. Hey, how did you find the clinic in South America? Did you finish your program before volunteering there? Thanks for the info...
  5. Hey Daniela, Congratulations! I'm so excited for you! I've read a few of your posts and I'm a student at ECC now, so I am so happy to hear that you finally, lol, found a job!! Are you going to relocate? Did you precept on a tele floor in school? Can you tell me how preceptorships are chosen? If there is a secret to getting what you want at ECC, I want to start working on it now! Congrats again! It really is an accomplishment in this job market!
  6. Hey, I am very interested in finding out how you went about the process of applying to this school. I can only find limited info and the admissions office never calls me back! I would love to know your stats, just so I can see where I fit in. Did you work ER or ICU and for how long before applying? Do you have BSN or ADN and BA/BS in another field? GPA range? Did you apply anywhere else? those sort of things... Thanks in advance for the info, please, please keep us posted on your experience with this school. Best of luck and congratulations for getting in somewhere! Its a HUGE accomplishment! I am a few years away from applying, but I'm trying to get all of my ducks in a row!
  7. I got the acceptance email yesterday as well! What a relief! I am excited to get started! Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, I can't wait to meet everyone at orientation.
  8. I think its wonderful that people are willing to share their breast milk with babies who may otherwise not be able to receive it. This reminds me of the outrage some people had when actress, Salma Hayek breastfed a baby on a humanitarian trip to Africa. I didn't get the outrage then, and I am kind of disappointed that people are so closed minded to the idea of sharing HUMAN milk. Like someone said, we don't think twice about using cow milk or even lab created synthetic milk, for Pete's sake! :) Besides, its not really "unorthodox" people have been doing it forever! Wet nurses or whatever else you want to call them have been used since the beginning of time. I guess I don't really see breast feeding as only a personal mommy/baby experience. I see it as the best way for a baby to get nutrients and develop immunities...but that's just my $0.02...
  9. Shaas, I am taking the TEAS at ECC next week! So I at least made it through the first hurdle! This process is killing me! It takes forever to find out anything! I was supposed to take the pharm at ECC this semester, but the teacher kicked everyone out who wasn't already in the nursing program! It was like 20 people! But oh well, it allows me more time to work and save up for the spring, when I probably won't be able to work anymore... Did you do well on the TEAS? I am really nervous! Because at this point, I think its all going to come down to this test!
  10. Hey, can any of you guys already in the El Camino program tell me if there are classes/clinicals on Fridays? I am applying for spring and I will only be taking N150 and N151 for 1st semester. I am taking Pharm this semester... thanks for the info in advance! I am kind of nervous as this is the first group of apps based on the new point system...I am just hoping to get in somewhere this spring!
  11. Domarera, Thanks for the info. I am applying to ALL of the schools that you listed and a few others. I live in MDR, so Santa Monica is ideal, but the waitlist is 2-3 semesters. I am determined to get in SOMEWHERE for the spring. Has your program at LASC started yet? How was the orientation? Did they seem organized and professional? I got a little worried when I went to the information session, but I feel like it can't be too bad if its accredited... Please keep me informed on your experience! Where all did you apply, if you don't mind sharing... Congrats again on getting in, its exciting! I can't wait for spring!:)
  12. Hey Congrats on getting in somewhere! I think that's an accomplishment no matter where it is. I am also applying to a TON of schools for the spring and I'm going wherever I get accepted. When did you apply? Did you have to wait at all? Congrats again on getting accepted!
  13. Hey, I just attended an info session for county today, and I was wondering if you guys who applied for Fall 2010 have heard anything yet? The counselor said that the cut off for Spring was 76 points, so i was just trying to get an idea of what the cut off was for Fall. I am applying for Spring with 80 points, if TEAS goes well... Thanks for the info and good luck to everyone!
  14. Did anyone call LAHC to see if all of the emails had been sent out? I just want more people from this board to get accepted somewhere!! Anyway, good luck, guys, you'll get in somewhere for fall. Trogina, you are officially in LA southwest, right? BTW, thanks for the info, I am definitely going to make an appointment with a counselor. It is true about the downsizing, they mentioned it at the info session Where do you live? Is LASC going to be a tough commute?
  15. Hi guys, CONGRATS on being accepted into the program. Hopefully, some first time application luck will come my way!! I'm applying everywhere this fall. Quick question about Rio Hondo... on their website it says that they only have Fall admission. Do you guys know if that's true, because for some reason I have October 1 listed as their application deadline for Spring 2011 admission. Am I crazy or is their website just not updated? Thanks for the info, and congrats again on getting accepted!!!
