Los Angeles Harbor City College-RN

Has anyone applied (or planning on applying) to the RN program at LAHC college? Is there a waitlist that you know of? Any comments, tips, or general info on this school is much appreciated.

Thanks!

just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten their blood work and urinalysis done? what do they check for? i just got mine done today. this is my first blood work and urinalysis in a decade. i'm somewhat nervous that my results will not fall within normal range (cholesterol, wbc, and etc...) the only reason i'm somewhat worried is because my blood pressure was high, this may be an indicator to more horrific results!

oh yeah, just got my hepatitis a/b and tdap shots done today... the tdap shot left my shoulder really sore. -__-;

They basically do a scan of everything--BP, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, sodium, potassium, calcium, protein, urea nitrogen, glucose etc. I was actually pretty surprised and pleased with my results! Nurse ---- said that she had never seen someone with such low bad cholesterol and high good cholesterol. but my triglycerides were oddly high--and the first time I went in, my BP was through the roof. I had just gotten off work though and ---- just said that it'd be better when I came in unstressed lol. Sure enough, next time it read as normal. I know what you mean though--it was a little scary to face the "truth" with blood work. But that's why I highly suggest going to the health center. She was sooooo nice, patient and un-dramatic about my high triglyceride issue. She called up a friend of hers in diagnostics and we got down to the bottom of it (which could only be genetics). It was just cool for her to spend that time to help me try and figure out a possible cause. And my arm was sore for like a week and a half after my shots! Annoying!

thanks for the info liana, btw my name is tom and i'm asian... can't mistake me for anyone else. i'm the only person with a tattoo on their forearm in the class.

Wait...I'm a bit confused here. I too had written down from the orientation that we needed the SIXTH edition of Clinical nursing skills and techniques (potter and perry)...wrote down the ISBN and everything...but according to the list we need the 7th?? help me out here...

yeah, it confused me also... I just ended up getting the 7th edition.

got my blood work results back... the nurse told me that I was the healthiest person of our class! she told me that my LDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) was higher than my HDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) which is very rare. my triglyceride levels were also very low (really low).

Then that was you I met today Tiger! My real name is Michael(but, I'm female as you saw today)...I was at the clinic when you and your wife were there and I asked you guys if you were excited. I had brown curly hair(might have been in a bun) and a dark blue coast guard sweatshirt. Nice meeting you. :)

She is so great, I just love her.

oh hey! i remember you! yeah, nice to meet you too. what a coincidence, ha... you should have told me you were walksfar75! although that would have been awkward. heh heh... yeah i went to the nursing office today for my bloodwork results and "invasive" physical. :crying2:

I didn't realize it was you til I came home and read that your name was Tom. I thought it was tiger(hey, my first name is michael so meeting someone named tiger isn't a stretch). If she had told me your name was Tiger I'd of course said who I was. :) hahahahha Does your wife post on here too, if so what is her screen name? Invasive???? Probably better not to ask what you mean and assume you didn't like him looking in your ears. :) he he he he

Sooo just to go back to the subject of the urinalysis. Would anyone know if they do random ones during the semester? A friend of mine is curious. :)

Lol probably when clinicals start, tell your friend to lay off the sticky icky :)

Haha, thanks! Will do!
