Los Angeles Harbor City College-RN

Has anyone applied (or planning on applying) to the RN program at LAHC college? Is there a waitlist that you know of? Any comments, tips, or general info on this school is much appreciated.

Thanks!

No random urinalysis tests during the semester...unless of course they suspect something hanky is going on, which you can't really afford to do while going through this program to begin with!!! LAHC is a tough program. I'm in 3rd semester now and as far as 6th vs. 7th edition...it really isn't a big deal if you have the 6th edition, all the info is the same.:nurse:

As far as the uniform goes...YES they do uniform checks weekly. Standing in front of the class, they make sure the pants aren't too long, no jewerly, hair off collar, nails clean, uniform pressed, knee high socks (they don't want to see ankle skin). They are pretty strict, especially the first few months...some instructors are serious and don't tolerate slacking anytime during the clinicals. Oh, and if you have any tats...they have to be completely covered up...no if's and's or but's!!!!

If you haven't gotten uniform pants yet, I strongly recommend the cargo type. When you go to clinic, especially at Harbor General, you'll need to keep your valuables (money, car keys, etc) on you...those extra pockets on the pant legs come in handy!

Did you guys get your kits from the student store? Someone said at orientation they'd have a stethoscope in them but mine didn't so I had to order one online. Are you guys anywhere close to finished with your reading???????

Emmnmegsmom, thanks for the tips!

ha, not even close to being done with the reading... the worst part about this is that i didn't take dosage calculations... i need to go over that too. i feel as if i was the only person that didn't raise their hand when the teacher asked for the people that have taken the class to raise their hand. i'm quite stressed already.

You aren't alone, my friend.....my hand wasn't up either. :) We still have time to finish reading, we can do it guys! :) I'm getting excited though for sure. A little anxious to start(yet at the same time wish I had a few more months off).

Hey guys, I didn't get the family night invite email. What day is it and do our kids go or just husbands/wives?

i forwarded you all the emails i got for the family night... you need to make a RSVP. the instructions to rsvp are within the email.. (its a link)

Thanks tiger,

Are you guys going? My hubby is on a ship and most likely won't be back by then but I'm thinking about bringing my mom so she can debrief him on the big deal when he gets home.... Hope everyone has a good weekend by the way!

Exactly how far are you guys on your reading??? I'm getting stressed too. Would love to know if I'm already super behind. I didn't take dosage yet either :uhoh3:

Well I was about two pages into it last time I picked up a book...finished my fun books for the summer so I'm going to start tonight!!!!(or so i say!)

I'm doing my readings in list order of the syllabus. Right now I'm on legalities, ch. 23. I feel like I'm super behind, but if I somehow do about 1.5 chapters per day from now, then I'd be all caught up with reading. haha! goooood luck to me ;).. Where about in the readings are you berdail?

sorry to burst your bubble... but a few of the chapters are very long... i think you've been reading the "short" chapters which were anywhere between 10-25 pages... try looking further, the other chapters are terrifying almost 60-90 pages! i don't think i'll be able to finish my summer reading but eh... whatever i had too many things going on this summer. i've only read a few chapters btw.

did you guys happen to get your badge id? if so, where did you get it?

and why do these syllabus's cost so much! I need to buy 5 of them due to the 5 classes i'm taking. each syllabus goes for about 15-30 dollars.
