Los Angeles Harbor City College-RN

Has anyone applied (or planning on applying) to the RN program at LAHC college? Is there a waitlist that you know of? Any comments, tips, or general info on this school is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I didn't go to the bookstore on Friday after work because I was too anxious to get home and start the long weekend. I'll go tomorrow for sure though when I get off. I haven't received my uniforms, but they charged my account for them so that must mean they are coming soon. How did you find out your wife's were on the way? Did you get yours? Did you guys get to enroll in that section that said it was full?

Did you happen to start reading yet? My wife got an email from ups stating a tracking # and the estimated delivery time said 7/6/10.

And yes we did get to register for the #3437.

The only things I didn't do yet are the getting the supply kit, syllabus, titers, vaccinations, physical, cpr, first aid, shoes, watch.

I started reading but have only a few pages into the first chapter. Have you started reading? I'm pretty sure we are good to go with the book we have. I still have all of what you mentioned to do as well plus the insurance. :) I am going to really dive into all of that this week. I took first aid 2 years ago and found my card and it says it's good til next july so I might not redo it til next summer.... save a few bucks, but nothing else is done.

i've started reading already... i advise you to start reading chapter 40 first, then read in order of what the list says. from the looks of it, our first test is based on "oxygenation" which is chp.40. i'm almost done with chapter 40 and its quite extensive and overwhelming. although i didn't memorize every detail, i feel more confident about our first test already, due to having an idea of what chapter 40 is about. (besides my friends in the 2nd semester of nursing told me to read chapter 40 first.) :p

you can just skim through the skills (the skills boxes pretty much take up 16-18 pages of the 50 pages in chp 40), you don't need to memorize the steps, our teacher will go into detail of what to concentrate on.

Oh yeah, go over the clinical book also! you will want to know what the hell the teacher is talking about on clinical days.

i hope this helps. i didn't want you to read all the chapters and not have enough time to read chapter 40. that would totally suck.

Awesome idea! Thanks, I will definately do that. :)

walksfar75 ~!!!

i did not get any e-mail from uniform company, but when i check the my account they already got money.

also, for background checking, still in process for criminal records...

and did you buy the shoes for clinic??

Whmacy-I didn't get an email yet either. No, I haven't gotten shoes yet either:). I keep telling my husband that we owe for this and that, and everyday I remember something else(or am reminded of something else, as in this case...thanks btw). UGH, going to the poor house soon at this rate! Where are you guys getting your shoes???? Tiger, do any of your second semester friends have any recommendations? I'm usually pretty cheap, but I think if anything, the shoes are probably something we don't want to screw up, considering all the standing we'll be doing.

try going to new balance in torrance on hawthorne blvd. that's where i'm getting my shoes. shoes are something you definitely want to invest in. i've heard a lot of horror stories about people purchasing cheap shoes at k-mart. it's best to invest in some nice comfy shoes. it doesn't need to be outlandishly expensive as long as your comfortable in them, it should be fine.

yeah, school is quite expensive... but its better than going to a private school and shelling out 50k-100k. if anything you can go to financial aid and inquire about student loans if you are having a difficult time.

oh yeah! i found a nice watch at target (on sepulveda and madrona) for around 10 dollars.

i think my wife signed up for quantum view tracking from ups... so anytime a package comes for her, it sends her an e-mail with a tracking #. i believe we are all getting our uniforms tomorrow... perhaps?

also, for background checking, still in process for Criminal records...

Anyone get comp. result?

No... Mine isn't completed either, it'll probably be completed by friday

Mine says in process too on the criminal part. My uniforms came though...did you you guys get yours? Tiger, definately gonna try the local target for the watch..does it have an elastic band?

my wife got hers, but I didn't get mine. she was the last person to be fitted perhaps that's why she got her uniform so early. (her paper was on the top of the pile)

as far as the watch goes its a simple timex watch it is expandable, but watch out! it will pull on your arm hair when the expandable portion on the band closes.. :D
