Hey, is there anyone who applied for Fall 2017 admission to LA County? Have you guys heard any news? has anyone called you? What are your thoughts?
I'm just weighing my options here at the moment. I've been working as a MA for 3-4 years now w/o the certification. I spoke to my EMT professor and he says I just need at least about 15-20 hours of learning/doing injections and I can qualify to take the State M.A test. I already work at a clinic and there are already 2 other M.As but don't want to make it seem as if I'm trying to steal their job. One of them was kinda paranoid I was going to take their job but I assured them I won't.I graduated from the VN program at Downey Adult School. It's tough to get in, but not impossible. It's a process that takes about 6 months just to make it in plus 12 months to go through the program. An average of 1.5 years. Find out about it here: das.edu.If I were you, I'd apply into PCC with your EMT. Many of my classmates at Downey had a CNA license and I know that helped them. I am a CNA as well. But, we also had MA's, Phlebotomists, and EMTs in my class so they did count their experience in the field. I think it all has to do with the way you "sell" yourself. Tell them about your experience being an EMT and how that has prepared you to take over the responsibilities of an LVN. Also, dress up and turn in the application in person. Ask to speak to the Director of the Nursing Department. If you need to make an appointment to see him/her, do it. Explain to them how you don't have a Nurse's Assistant Certification, but you are an EMT and let them see how interested you are in the program.
PCC LVN program has CNA as a requirement for their application I believe too.
I don't know how you guys are finding out if you got in or not/making them call you to tell you.
Every time I call they give me an excuse/ it's confidential/they don't know. I finally got through to the person in charge, and I asked and she said that they are still sending out decisions and it won't be for another week or two. She wouldn't tell me the status of my application. Wouldn't discuss it at all.
Any news today for anyone
I just called now to follow up my application status. He said, the Dean will call me tomorrow. I know I have small hope or I can say no hope at all but I'd like to find out what's my score and what I need to improve. If I don't get accepted, I'll try to apply again for spring 2018.

Oh okay... Today was my first call, if they're still sending out, then I'll wait í ½í¸‰.
So I got a returned called from county. She said they're still sending out the letter and the cut score is 77. I only have 74I think I just received another rejection letter.. Oh well, maybe I'll retake some classes, get an A's and reapply next spring.
At least you got a call back... They said they were going to call me today and they didn't. I still don't even know.
I just talked to the person in charge, she told me that they have already selected the first 50 and the cutoff was 77 points. She says that as responses are coming in (ACCEPT/DECLINE), she might be able to accept a few more. BUT, that won't happen until next week! Now, the thing that I was glad she was able to do for me was to go over my application. The first thing she said was, I have you at 66 points! I was like, WHAT? She goes, did you come up with something else? I said, YES, I came up with 76! She goes, okay, let's go over my count. She then goes over every single class and she had me down as two of my Science classes being "C"s. I go no, that is not it, I have an average of B's in all my Science classes. She goes, okay, let me go through your transcripts one more time. So, she does and sees that yes, I have an average B in all my Science classes. Then, she was not giving me the extra point for my experience in the health field. So, I pointed that out and she added that one point to her count. Finally, we have the same count. To close our conversation, she said to call her back next Monday afternoon to find out what the status on my application will be. One last thing, she did say that she needed to fix the point count in the system to make it official so that'll be taken care by Monday as well. I called at exactly 9:50 a.m. just so you know at what time of the day she was able to give me a few minutes of her time. Good luck to us all.
