Any one here graduates of the program? Or are in the program?
Hey WeepyWillow,
I did my insurance completely online. Just go to nso(dot)com. Then hover over Professional Liability Insurance and choose Student Nurse from the menu. Then just go through their questions, pay, and done. You have to pick a date that the policy starts so I just chose August 13th, the first day of school. If you choose to get your certificate via email, then they'll email it to you whenever they clear and grant you the policy. I got mine in about 3 days after I applied. You can also have them mail it to you but I'm sure that will take longer. It cost about $21 and change.
I went to get my health clearance today and I'm so glad to be done with that. Tired of going to the doc at this point. All that's left is the livescan, which I'm doing next Thursday morning. Then orientation week starts! I'm both excited and scared. :)

hey willowita! thanks for getting back to me! okay, i shall check online for the nso. i can't believe i forgot all about it!! i've been so busy with everything!! i have my livescan appointment on the 27th they didn't have any earlier dates. meanwhile, i'm so excited and nervous as the days quickly move on!!! we have orientation and then classes!!! if you can only see me now, doing a little victory dance because we got in!!! i do have to say that some of the earlier comments about this program has rendered me a tad intimidated: with their comments about all the crying and the stress and the lack of support, but i felt that after our initial meeting with the dean, she sorta alleviated some of my fears about this program... despite all of the prior complaints, negative comments, and some "beware," i definitely feel that i can handle it. i need this program more than it needs me.
on another note, have you required all of your books yet?
Congratulations and well done to you incoming students! Welcome! :) Even though I've voiced concerns about the program, I'm still in it for the long haul. I know in the end, it will all be worthwhile. What lack of support I felt missing from the school, I've found from fellow classmates. No one else knows what it's like. With the summer break more than half over, I'm starting to get anxious and am looking forward to starting Semester 2. It's going to be a crazy ride.
I look forward to meeting the Class of 2014-I. Good luck to all of us!
Hey Willowita, sorry for the delayed response. Trying to get all of this school stuff done plus work has made for some long days recently. Yes the pharmacology book was the issue. But I managed to find the correct year. I too purchased my insurance from NSO. They were pretty efficient in getting the certificate sent quickly.
I was wondering if anyone who will be attending the Olive View clinical site has received any information yet? I have yet to get anything and after calling the school on three separate occasions- all I hear is "next week".
I know what you mean about the negative comments! I felt much better after orientation. I was the one that asked for their pass rate and some reasons for people failing. The reasons that were given reassured me that I can handle it. Will it be tough as nails? Of course. But like you said, I also need this program :). Plus, both my parents work at LAC + USC and they wouldn't encourage me to go there if they thought I couldn't handle it. So I'm feeling the jitters but positive overall.
As far as the books go, I got most of them except for the pharmacology books, since there's some confusion about which one to get, and the "recommended" books.
Willowita--have you gotten your stethoscope/blood pressure cuff kit yet? If so, which one did you order?
Thank you! I am getting excited!! I too was feeling discouraged by the comments, but came to the same conclusion as you guys after the orientation. Plus, like Lingaping said, we will have each other :).
Looking forward to meeting you all in a couple weeks!
Get used to hearing "next week," that's usually their answer. I'm a third semester student and have done all my clinicals at OV. What questions do you have? Perhaps I can help.
@snookiejc- thanks. We were told at the pre-registration meeting that we'd have an orientation type session at Olive View where they'd perform the live scan, fire training and sign us up for our badges. Did you have a similar situation? How do you like Olive View thus far? Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

lol! i thought that was you as i know that you were debating on sticking with pcc's program or taking on county!! i'm glad you chose county!! that must be awesome to have parents that have already gone through this and that they are there rooting for you. i so wish that i could have that kind of support, but at least i have you guys!! thank you for reminding me about the nso! i finally got that squared away. i, too, need to buy the stethoscope and the bp cuff. has anybody bought their kits yet?? i want to get one that's good, but not too expensive... yet, if i have to, i'll bite the dust and pay the piper if needed.
i wonder if county is still gonna mail out anymore packages?? i could of sworn that maria mentioned as much during our orientation there.

willowta, how did you go about getting your nso insurance? i had entirely spaced that while i've been scrambling about working at my job as well as getting my health clearance, nursing books, bls, nursing uniforms, and what not!! i still have to get my school to send in my transcripts for the sociology class and speech that i took during winter break... these last few weeks have been crazy!!
at least i got most everything done! just need to do the nso (i'll look through the package that they gave us during preregistration), get the rest of my books, and complete my background check. anybody done, or almost finished with their list of stuff to do?
