Any one here graduates of the program? Or are in the program?

Good for you! We just had our pre-registration meeting today, and there is so much to do to get ready for August, but I'm really excited! Everyone on staff is great! I hope to see you there in the Spring as well! :yeah:

@Snookie: Thanks so much for the words of encouragement (and sympathy!) I took two classes this semester so I'll be golden for the Spring with 6 more points for those and 1 point for having applied before. So I'll see you in the Spring, I hope! Best wishes to you!

Hi All and Congrats to all those accepted!!:nurse:

Im new a new member to the site as of today....I myself just finished last pre-req and will be applying this July for Spring 2012. Have all A's in everything, thank goodness- core sciences and general ed. Took interpersonal communications speech 100 (which I found that only a handful of colleges accept for their nursing programs, including Citrus, which is where Im attending at the moment) And only real problem so far is I wasnt able to get into Speech 101 this summer, so I won't have those 3 extra points going in :( ........ IF all goes well and I attain the 20 max pts on TEAS *crossing everything* :), Im looking at about 88 pts with a bonus for healthcare experience. Does anyone know if they will give those 3 extra pts if you show them that you will be taking Speech this Fall, prior to entering the program if accepted?? Anyone else applying for Spring 2012?? Im also looking into PCC and GCC for Spring and Rio Hondo and Citrus (since it's my neighbor) in Fall 2012- only drawback is having to wait an entire year to see if I get accepted, and not sure if distance is worth wasting more precious time not entering another ADN program nearby? Any suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Everyone!!

Hey Liz...

You won't get the points for any class in progress or planned, however having it out of the way will save having to take it later on. You have a strong point value, so you should have no trouble getting in for the spring. Just make sure they have everything turned in..transcripts, test scores, etc. before the deadline, because they are not flexible on that. Good Luck!

I was in the Workforce program, which is supposed to virtually guarantee admittance into the County college. They dropped me at the 11th hour due to a ridiculous technicality. The only reason I was part of it was because it would've been free for me, since I already work for the glorious County...

I'm glad I won't be going there. I am now free to pursue my bachelor's at a university and contribute all of my expertise to a worthwhile employer upon graduation. Can't wait . . . :D

Hi all :) I am currently in the 4th semester at LA County College of Nursing. I must say, that while the program is definitely INTENSE...it is a wonderful school! I already work for LA County as an LVN so it was easy to get into the Workforce program. I love it! The education you get here is priceless. Good luck to you all.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this threat, well I am new to California, I will explain. I just moved from Miami to California(Los Angeles), so I have no idea how nursing schools work around here, or which schools should I apply to. I was looking around and realized that my pre-requisites which I completed back in Miami are almost the same as the ones required here, and that TEAS test is also a requirement. I would appreciate if anyone could please help me, and give me some advice in what schools should I apply to, the deadlines for spring 2012 and fall 2012. To be honest any piece of advice will help me a lot.

Thank you in advance!!!!

Hello Fcat,

When I decided to be a Nurse, two years ago, I had no idea where to begin or who to ask. I learned a lot through these two years, specially to find the good nursing schools from the bad ones (some people say it doesn't matter which school you go to that at the end you will be a nurse, but why not go to a good nursing school). So I started looking though this link for schools around my area: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml. Here you will find the all nursing school in California. Each school listed, also, includes their address and website, look at the ones near your area. Than I went into this other link to see their NCLEX passin rates: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml. I applied to the schools with passing rates higher than 95% and fortunately i got into LA County.

Once you find the schools that are of your liked, go to their website and look into their pre-requisite list and application deadlines.

Good Luck Fcat and WELCOME to Los Angeles!

Debbie, do you know if we have to wear the uniform to both lecture and clinical or just clinical? My clinicals are at Olive View, by the way. Did your letter specify where you are doing your clinicals?

Im a student at the school. You wear uniforms only to clinicals. you can wear a white lab coat on days your getting your patients or visit the hospital though.

Thank you so much BeachsideNic, greatly appreciate your help! So far I've applied to LA County, Glendale, and Pasadena :) Have a few more schools to apply to in Fall, but keeping my fingers crossed!!

Anyone else applying to County's program for Spring 2012? I'd love to hear feedback from any students in the program already; how is the commute every morning, days/hours of lectures and clinicals, recieving financial aid?, any parents juggling kiddos?, and ultimately how they would rate the program and their experience???? My biggest worry is to commit myself somewhere and not be happy with my decision :) Any help is much appreciated!!

Thanks guys!!!

I attended LA County School of Nursing and graduated in 1985. I'am sure that some aspects of the school have changed, like the testing prior to admission. But, if you do get in it is well worth the effort. The school is hands down the best in the state. You will come out more than prepared for your first job. Some of the instructors I had are still teaching. I won't say the program was easy because it was not. The reputation of the school is your ticket to the best jobs it gave me an opportunity to work in the PICU at Huntington Memorial and others in So Cal. It also got me a job in Minnesota! I am now back in California and working as an advice nurse for Kaiser in No Cal. My son will be getting out of the Navy in less than a year and he wants to go LA County. So anyone out there still on the fence about this school go for it, you'll work hard but the reward is saying you graduated from the best school in California! Good Luck

Hi all!

I'm an LVN and I'm waiting until November to apply since the accelerated program for LVN's don't start taking applications until then.. Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes on average to get into the program? And what constitutes as having "enough" points? Any information would be helpful!
