Any one here graduates of the program? Or are in the program?

omg, ACE Tac-Tic, you hit the nail on the head! I graduated in 2009 & boy, when speaking with other RNs that went elsewhere, we get such a different experience but in all reality, I believe that we are the best prepared for working on the floor. Good luck for 4th--you will need it. If you need to, PM me if you would like. You haven't found contradictory until you get to 4th! Welcome to LAC-SON, where there's no education like it!:)

I agree that LAC produces the best nurses that are prepared for the workforce straight out of school. I am proud to be a student here, but honestly, having come this far, I would much rather have had a less stressful nursing school experience and get the license. Knowing I would most likely become stressed after getting a job, but personally I feel if you're getting paid your full salary, that the stress is certainly much more bearable than struggling to pass nursing school in order to be eligible for the NCLEX with fear of being held back 6 months or possibly failing out of the program. I have a friend whom I took pre-reqs with and she goes to the PCC nursing program, the only drawback I saw there was the 75% minimum in all classes, however hearing her clinical experiences caused a considerable amount of envy when hearing her being able to knock out several hours of studying and having the luxury of a proper one hour lunch break, whereas I am constantly busy and on the move and even writing out care plans during my 15 minutes to eat. Most nurses after school honestly forget many of the skills they learned because most of the jobs typically specialize in certain areas (ER, OR, ICU, PHN, etc.). For example, I know an OR Supervisor at the county who's an RN whose job is scheduling surgeries and helping staff in understaffed situations, but she said so herself, "Honestly, if you asked me to take a blood pressure, I'd have to go get the machine." Enough said.

It is indeed competative! Good luck to all!

I browsed through some of these pages and maybe missed it (surely), but what exactly does it mean when they invite you to take the TEAS?

It means you passed their initial requirements. Once to take the TEAS, they will award you points based on how well you did:

15 pts for passing better than 64% first time

5pts bonus for passing with a 75% (or better) the first time.

Then they add those points to your other points you receive for your classes. Check the website for the point breakdown. Once they analyze all of the applicants, they establish a point cut-off score. If you are above the cut-off, you will get in the program.

Thank you! Also, is there two cutoffs for both their full 2 year vs. bridge programs?

I dont remember I think I had alot because I got all A's in my sciences - but some ppl got in with less than I did. To answer the question about NLNAC and CCNE from what I see only BSN programs at universities are accredited.

*** No, that is incorrect. BSN programs may be accredited by either NLNAC or CCNE. Associated degree prgrams are, or should be, accredited by NLNAC. It does matter. The VA for example hires nurses who graduated from accredited schools only.

Has anyone got a invite for the teas yet for. I am applying for fall 2011. For the Rn program

I received an invite to take the TEAS V at the end of March. I saw my score a few days ago (2 weeks after taking the test): 91% However, I am unhappy with my application score = 73. Posts from 2009 are discouraging for someone with a 73, but I want to get in more than anything. My patience is overcooked after a load of rejection so far. I am praying for LA County, or CSULA BSN program for fall 2011. I got into CSULA, but they won't notify me about BSN admission for at least another week.

I've met a ton of applicants strained with stress, like myself in this long process. But I met a stranger today who is another LA County applicant. She was so sunny about sharing the experience this far in and she made me feel worlds better. I hope I get in and see her in the program. :nurse: :nurse:

That's a great TEAS score, but you are right, your total points are on the low side. Are you missing some classes or something? Last semester, the cutoff was 80 points. I only had 77 and did not make the cut. This time around I have 84 points, since I took a couple of classes that I didn't have finished at the time of my previous application. I hope that will be enough. It seems like the applicant pool is getting tougher. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply, it's good to see people talking about this.

20 pts (TEAS Score) + 10 (Anatomy) + 15 (Physio) + 10 (Micro) + 6 (Engl 101) + 3 (Psych) + 3 (Sociology) + 3 (Speech) + 3 (Humanities) + 2 (Polisci) + 1 (pt. care experience) = 76

Slight miscalculation earlier, but i'm still low. I wish programs would establish the cutoff prior to TEAS testing eligibility. An applicant like myself is automatically ineligible because my total is under the cutoff, with the full 20 pts from the TEAS. I just called LA County School of Nursing this morning and confirmed last year's cutoff: 80. The administrator awkwardly asked my name and what score I calculated for myself, then she explained that the soonest we'll hear decisions for RN-Basic Fall 2011 admission is late May to mid-June. She also said that the cutoff this year has not yet been determined, but will be determined shortly before that time. 600

How else could I increase my score? I am incapable of exceeding 80, and I feel awful. Next time, I could have a 77 for reapplying (1+ bonus pt), and hope for lower cutoff. I want to be in this program so much, but I have to make a decision to go to CSULA by May 2nd. Worst scenario, I don't get into any nursing programs and transfer to CSULA for nutrition/biology, and keep applying to LA County RN program. But I am ready NOW. Does anyone know if there is a wait-list or a way to appeal for reconsideration? Is the cutoff absolute?

:dancgrp: lol.
