Los Angeles City College-Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello future nurses!

I am starting this new thread for everybody that is planning to apply to LACC's nursing program for Fall 2014. How many of you are planning to apply for Fall 2014? I'll be finishing my last prerequisite (chemistry) this winter and hope to apply in February. Good luck to us all!

Thanks for your clarification. I thought the alternate list started at number 1. So yeah, I'd probably get in if I wait for people to give up their spot. But my mind is already made up. I'm going to Harbor.

I hope you get your letter high in the alternate list. Did you apply to and get in at other schools? Is LACC your top choice?

I applied to LACC, PCC and County. My heart is set on LACC since it is my home college and is so close to home. PCC is 21 miles away from home, which is too far, so that is not too appealing, and County apparently has great clinicals and good reputation but they are so expensive.

I wish I could get into LACC, but now I am thinking that that is not very likely, stupid lottery :-).

Congrats on getting into LAHC and good luck with your program.

And no, I haven't heard anything from either of the colleges. The wait is killing me :-)

I did my prerequisites at both LAHC and LACC, and applied to both schools. LAHC is closer to home, but I can take the subway and get my studying/homework done on my way to LACC. Both schools can work well for me. That's why I was a bit undecided. My grades and Teas score are high enough to get me into the generic/basic BSN program at CSULB, but I don't qualify for any financial aid, and I don't want to take out any student loans. I still plan to do the RN-BSN program at CSULB once I graduate Harbor. I also dislike the lottery, but I'm glad at least I got accepted to one of them.

I hope you hear from any of them soon. Indeed, the wait is terrifying.

Anyone else got their letters? I hope to get mine tomorrow, probably a rejection or alternate one :-(.

I've got mine. Unfortunately I'm alternate # 44. Pretty much rejection. Oh well, I still have 4 other schools to hope for.

I don't know why, but when I imagined myself in nursing school , it was County. Even though I really wanted to get into LACC.

Oh no,no, alternate number 44 is great news. It's not what you think. The counselor talked about it at the orientation. They accept 40 students, and then they start assigning alternate numbers to students placed after number 40, which means you only need 4 students to give up their spot for you to get in, and let me tell you, that is very likely to happen since many students apply to so many school and LACC is not the number one school for everybody. You might get an acceptance call. :-)

Staceycsu and margaret94, what about you guys? Did you get your letters?

Maybe I didn't understand something. .. I called right away, and asked. She said that 40 students accepted, and 44 alternates. Guys, can u imagine I'm alternate # 44. 131 applied, 40 accepted, 44 alternates and the rest rejected? Maybe I understood wrong. I want to hear from other students , if they had alternate # 1 or its start from # 40. Im confused. I told this lady on the phone how unfair the lottery system ( like she can do anything about it lol). She told me that I must write to our government lol))))))) maybe to president Obama. Honestly, I was SAD.

No, alternates don't start from number 1, because my friend got an alternate spot number 76, so if there were only 44 alternates starting from number one, she couldn't have gotten an alternate spot number 76. The counselor talked about it at the oriantation. But, you should call them in the morning to ask directly how many students have to give up their spots for you to get in. And everything will be clearer. :-)

I will definitely call her tomorrow. I hope u are right)

my latter says: " we had 131 candidates who applied for our RN program. We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate via lottery for LACC RN program beginning fall 2014. Your ranking number is alternate # 44. Your lottery placement can quickly change, meaning that you may still gain an admission spot.

Its makes sense that your are right. If they accept 40 students. Why would they need 44 alternates. Right?

Exactly! They just start assigning those alternate numbers after their 40th accepted student. You are 44th on their list, which is great. I am thinking there's a 90% chance you will get in. Let me know what they tell you in the morning. I hope I will get my letter tomorrow. I just want to know my status, even if it's a rejection. Not knowing is the worst :-(
