Hello future nurses!
I am starting this new thread for everybody that is planning to apply to LACC's nursing program for Fall 2014. How many of you are planning to apply for Fall 2014? I'll be finishing my last prerequisite (chemistry) this winter and hope to apply in February. Good luck to us all!
You have to Attach a photocpy of your license, ss card, and student id( all in one page) Also attach your official highschool transcripts. You must also know the grades, units, and course name and number of all the prerequisites you've taken. In addition to those, you have to submit a 300 word essay (not stapled to the application) along with your application.
If LACC is a lottery, what is the purpose of the essay?
Well, the lottery will happen, "If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available for entrance into the nursing program a random drawing of the eligible applicants is conducted." That is what their web page says. But, of course the number of eligible applicants will exceed the number of seats and the lottery always happens :-)
I guess my question is, if we have been qualified to fill out an application our name automaticly goes into the lottery. So how then does the essay effect anything?
I am sure that they will still look at the individual files, I don't quite buy that "lottery" system, but who knows. Because if they were just doing the lottery, why would they need to read our essays? So, I guess, it is not all black and white after all. We just have to wait until May to find out :-)
Turns out the app and essay go to a review committee. If your app is chosen it then goes into the lottery. So it's a four step process.
Meet the cut score
Get invite/submit app and essay
App and essay reviewed and chosen
Lottery
Is LACC the only college you applied to? I applied to PCC and County College of Nursing and Allied Health, but LACC would be my first choice if I do get in. They said we would get notified beginning of May.

They have two rounds of selection. In the first round, people who meet their minimum criterium will be selected to fill out the application; they let you know that your transcripts have been evaluated and that you are eligible for the lottery, the second round is lottery.
