Los Angeles Area RN Salary

Published

Does anybody have an idea or rough estimate on the hourly rate of Registered Nurses in the LA area? & the difficulty of landing a job as a new Grad?

Specializes in Pediatric critical care.

My friend just got a position as a new grad at Centinela (spelling?) and she started at $28 and some change which is great because I have 3 years of experience and only make $31 and some change at my children's facility.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

High $20s to low $30s per hour at most places.

Finding that first job as a newly graduated nurse with no experience is extremely difficult in the greater Los Angeles area.

Not as much as Northern California huh @TheCommuter

Specializes in ECMO.

I'm sorry, but this sounds really depressing considering the cost of living in LA. I worked at a very well regarded children's hospital in North Texas and new RNs were GUARANTEED to make $30hr on day shift after two years of experience. This was back in 2008. I've worked beside nurses for the last 8 years and this is disgusting that area hospitals would pay such wages for such vital members of the healthcare team.

It's disgusting, but it is all about supply and demand.

Simply put, there are way too many nurses in the Los Angeles area and not enough jobs for every nurse who wants to secure employment. If experienced nurses are willing to work in southern CA for $30 hourly, then the hospitals have no stimulus to pay more than that.

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, SICU, MICU.

Yeah, Centinela starts new grads at 28.28, but other hospitals close by start at 32-33/hr. That adds up.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

People put up with it because of the weather. It's "winter" right now and the weather's been perfect in the 70s. I'd move to Texas in a heart beat, but hubby hates to be warm. He complains if it's over 80 outside and he'll start sweating. Everyone has different priorities. He'd rather live poor. I say we could afford all the AC we wanted....
