Lorain CCC

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how long the "waiting list" at LCCC is. I have heard two years?! Now I understand that they select from a pool of applicants based on various criteria. So, for a person that has all course work complete, how long? Thanks!

Reading this makes me nervous, I applied this summer to go in the Spring, but am taking the Sociology class online (transfer student and it wasn't required at my old school). But I came from a good college, got great grades, I really feel like I did super well... but I can't imagine having a whole year off of school, not to mention all the bills from financial aid from my past two years of school starting to pile on when I'm not a full-time student :(

It stinks... I have been out of school since March of 2009 and I'm still waiting to start. I'm barely staying afloat...

:( good luck!! I was thinking about filling the time by going to their Nurse Aid classes and doing that for a while. I didn't realize when I decided to transfer how incredibly busy their program is!! But I've heard such great things about their nursing program and can't really go back to my old university now... so... I hope anyone who applied starts asap!

Dizzy - I hope someone didn't make it sound like you'd get in for the spring in enrollment services because that would be a really crappy thing for them to have done. :( I've been on the list since August of 2009 and was told this March (2010) that my chances for spring admission (2011) are pretty much slim to none and that I'd be lucky to get into Fall 2011. And, I'm completely done with all of my classes. If I get into Fall 2011, then I will have been on the waiting list for two years. My GPA is a 3.6, so it's not like I'm a slacker with barely a 2.5.

Now, the program is a good one, but yeah, you have to wait. It might not be a bad idea for you to do the nurses aid training. Or you could work on classes that will help you to bridge to a BSN program later on. That's basically what I'm doing now, taking Humanities and courses like that, to round me out.

Jenny-I know I replied on here before but your situation is the same as mine. I applied in august 2008 finished all my prereqs summer 2009. Went and talked with a couple of advisors who basically said I more than likely would not get in spring of 2010. That most people are waiting a year after taking their last prereq. However I got my acceptance letter last October and started this past January. I just started my third semester. So even though they say all that, I think you have a good shot at getting in in January. Keep us updated!

So now people say it's a 2 year wait? How could I possibly wait two years? That's almost 6 years for an associates degree? Is anyone else crying bull at this? If I don't get it, I don't know what I'm going to do. Nursing is all I want to do...

dizzy - Well, clinicals are five semesters, so if you're on the list for two years, then it's really like four years. Unless you are only going part time and won't finish all your core classes, in which case, yes, it will take longer, from my understanding of how the list works.

Most nursing schools that don't cost a fortune have more students than they have seats for them. Really it's more an issue to find a clinical to place students in. Most schools have agreements with hospitals to take x number of students a semester. It's not as simple as just moving the classes to a larger lecture hall. I'm sure LCCC would love to have larger class sizes. However, there are only so many students the area hospitals can accommodate.

I haven't been around in awhile, but wanted to post an update....it's at least a two year wait. All the letters have gone out and I did not get in for spring semester. So, we'll see in March if I get in for fall (I'll be at 2 years waiting by the start of the fall semester).

I've also heard from someone in the program currently that they're currently considering making one of the first semester classes a pre-req that they'll want you to take right before you start since you're required to know the information in that class for the other class (even though you take them concurrently). So, we'll see what happens with that.

Awww, that sucks. Sorry to hear you didn't get in for the spring. It's so frustrating to be done with classes and have to be waiting to get into the program. Are you currently taking classes towards your Bachelors? I heard that too about 114. They may make it a prereq which in my opinion is actually a good idea. I also heard that there may be some other changes being made with some other classes. Good luck to you! One good thing is that time has flown by once I got into the program, I am getting ready to start my fourth semester!

Yep, I continue to take classes that will count towards my BSN. It's just frustrating. Had I known how long it was going to take, had they been honest from the beginning, I would have just taken my pre-reqs at LCCC and applied towards the BSN programs in the area and not messed around waiting for LCCC.

I agree that 114 as a pre-req would be good. It was ironic that I was told this b/c another friend and I were talking (she's 3rd semester now) and she was telling me how it was ridiculous to be required to know something in 115 from 114 when you took them at the same time. I was relaying this to my DH and he and I were like...then why not make 114 a pre-req? Wouldn't that make the most sense? And then we just heard that they're thinking of it. Rather comical. I wonder if they'll add another class to the first semester if they make 114 a pre-req.

It is frustrating waiting. I've been on the list (and grandfathered in) since before Stats was a requirement. How many more changes are they going to make before I actually get into the program?

I'm sure the time will pass quickly, but it's frustrating, nonetheless.

Well, I finally got in! I start in August. :) So, it took two years once my pre-reqs were done (Chem, Intermediate Algebra) and a full year after I finished my core classes (which I did in one year - two semesters and a summer).

I'm excited to start! We have orientation in May, which will make it seem even more real. I know it's going to be a lot of work and a lot of sacrifice for my family, but I know it'll be worth it in the end for all of us (my kids, husband and myself). :)
