Looking for a great workout!

I have been looking at workout routines, but am not a fan of gyms or weights. I do like the energy I get by working out and staying busy, but need motivation.

I have known people who do Tae Bo, and they say they like it, but I think that requires much self motivation.

I am not overweight, but do feel out of shape. In addition to school and working as an aide, I also am a firefighter, in which I need to be fit and trim. Any help from you guys would be great!

Thanks...

Wow, you're very active to say the least!

I like the "Walk Off The Pounds" series by Leslie Sansone. It's very easy to do, and you can take it up a notch by adding 5 lbs hand or ankle weights. Another good series in the "Slim in 6" series. Good luck!

I have a few dvd's I like from the biggest loser, the cardio max is great and so is the power sculpt. I like to vary my workouts with my elliptical, if you can afford a good one you will love the results it gives you.

I do an hour 4 or 5 times a week; 40 minutes aerobic cardio, and 20 minutes weight training. Sometimes, I just have hand weights with my cardio and do a full hour of that. I vary the routine. Some days I concentrate on abs, then the next week it'll be legs and arms. Above all, it should be fun; keeps the motivation up!

Bikram Yoga. hands down. my favorite thing to do, burns fantastic calories, builds muscle, and provides relaxation and stress management. other "hot yoga" classes do the same, but most people know about Bikram

I used to be a personal trainer. I would love to get back into it on a more steady level, but I need to get my own happy butt into better shape before I could charge others for the privlege. LOL

My main words of wisdom would be:

When you go to the grocery, park at the back of the lot and walk in.

Walk the stairs to the floor when you start and end shift.

If you have a slow bit of time during shift, walk the stairs once.

You might not be able to do something every single day. But if you do something when you can, I think you will see a benefit.

It is nearly impossible to make a huge life change all at once. But if you can make little differences every day, they add up.

good luck!

Thanks very much.

Here's my current workout. While it involves weights and the health club, it has been an integral factor in my recent weight loss of 39 pounds. Much of this stuff can be done at home with only the natural weight of your body.

A. Two days per week of strength training with dumbbells

1. Squats

2. Calf Raises

3. Bent-over Rows

4. Bench presses

5. Shrugs

6. Shoulder raises

7. Bicep curls

8. Tricep extensions

9. Crunches

B. Five days per week of cardiovascular exercise, such as stairclimbing, walking, jogging, or the elliptical machine

Commuter...quick question for ya'

How much time do you put into each exercise? Or, how many reps and set do you do? When you are doing cardio, how long do you do those exercises?

Thanks

PS - Where to begin is really the help I need. I did buy a video designed for firefighters (I volly), and am planning on doing cardio the days I don't do the video. Have a fitness center at my workplace i plan on using after my orientation to it next week. TRrying to juggle work and school right now is hectic!

I typically do 3 sets with 8 to 12 reps when working with free weights. A full body workout with weights only takes me about 35 to 40 minutes, twice weekly.

Regarding the cardio, I usually exercise for 35 to 45 minutes.
