Looking for friends along the application process

Published

Hi guys,

My name is Brian, I am new to allnurses and i'm excited to be here. I'm really motivated about starting my nursing school journey(next year). I am in my last year of prereqs. I'm taking A&P1 and Micro now and it's really challenging. I will be applying to two or three ADN programs. This thread is to find other people that will be taking TEAS and finishing up prereqs this year. What classes are you guys taking??

Im in Wisconsin too! Do you mind me asking what school you're at?

I completed my Pre-req's at MATC and I'm applying to Cardinal Stritch for this Spring. :yeah:

Specializes in Pediatric Home Care, Dr Office/Clinic.

@beachsidenic what 3 ADN and 3 BSN programs did you apply to? I found 1 ADN program through LA County College of Nursing and know of a couple of BSN programs but i am looking for more schools to maybe consider. Thanks!

BSN:

Cal State Long Beach (2 year trimester)

CSU Channel Islands (Goleta Satellite campus at Cottage Hospital)

CSU Chico

ADN:

Long Beach City College

Grossmont College (San Diego..ACCEPTED!)

Los Angeles County College of Nursing

It takes a lot of planning and upkeep to apply for this many schools, but I'm glad I did, because I have a great range of schools to select from, and I made sure that I will be going to nursing school in January no matter what. I had applied for Master's Entry Programs for Fall, 2011 and got rejected from them all... So I regrouped and restrategized and now I feel much better about my nursing future.

That's nice you guys are able to apply to so many different schools...Around here it seems like each school has certain pre-reqs you have to take at their school only, or they have waiting lists.

Oh, that's lame, soxgirl... Here in CA, you can take pre-reqs at almost any public school and it will be transferable as long as you check it in assist.org. There are still a bunch of schools that have waiting lists, but most of the California schools are moving away from it, and going to a straight point system. I think it's much more fair this way, and it makes it easier for someone with excellent grades and test scores to get into nursing school where they belong.

Specializes in ER volunteer.

I've just had my nursing school interview today and I feel alot confident that they would accept me into the program for Spring 2012. If anyone needs information about pre-q courses, teas, application, and interview process, hit me up! Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for my acceptance letter to get in within 3-4weeks. I can't wait!! :)

Hi Brian, I'm also in my last semester for pre-reqs. I'm taking physiology and lifespan psychology. Those are the last two classes I need for programs in my area. I plan to take the TEAS V this fall but I still haven't figured out which date works best for me. The November date is around one of my other exams so I was thinking of taking it in December. All the schools I'm applying to will only take your first exam scores so I have to be 100% ready before I take it.

I'm applying to 14 schools for an ADN program. My overall gpa is low from a past college life of over 200 units of mediocre grades. All my grades in the last 2 years since starting the nursing route are straight A's so I hope that counts for something. I'm very scared though, which is why I'm applying to so many schools. Good luck to you!

Hi Brian and hi everyone :)

I'm taking A&P II, Micro, Intro to Psyc, Dev Psyc, and Stats. This was a crazy week before I had tests on every subject plus lab quizzes. :) After this semester I'm done with the pre-reqs and I'm taking the TEAS at the end of the year.

We have to apply before Feb 1st 2012 for Fall and we'll know at the end of April if we got accepted or not, but I can take Patho anyway. I'll have a light Spring 2012 academically but I'll use my extra time to volunteer more.

Good luck to everyone!

That is one MONSTER load of classes there DF. Im taking the NLN tomorrow, and even though I keep telling myself to not stress about it and relax, Im finding it hard as hell to do. Ill be glad when Im done with it, for better or worse.

I have A&P 1-2 to take along with Micro and Political Science. I'm currently taking PE online chemistry and lab along with college algebra. How hard is Micro and A&P to take together? I want to take A&P online not sure yet. political Science will definitely be an online class. before I apply for the nursing program I have to have A&P under my belt at least 1. Not sure if I can make it for the Fall nursing program of next year. Any thoughts? I just would rather tKe one or two classes to get an A. Rather than take more than that and get a C.

Welcome Brian ....forgot to say that earlier. I am in Georgia and I wish you and everyone else the best if luck in your endeavors!!

I am currently taking my prerequisites as well. For the program that I am applying to, it requires General Psychology, Human A&P 1 and 2, Intro to Chemistry, and Microbiology.

So far, I have General Psychology, A&P I, and a couple of other basic courses finished.

I hope to be in the Nursing program by next fall. :icon_roll

A&P is very hard, it has challenged me in a way no other class has before. I had to really get to know my "study style" in order to succeed in this class. A&P forced me to no procrastinate and get things done, to read material before class, to have made notecards for the quiz on Wednesday a week in advance, etc. But I think I secretly like the challenge, you know? I love that I'm getting closer to Nursing school, and I love learning about the body and medical terms. So it's all worth it to me. :)

I'm currently looking for some type of job in a healthcare setting, I've applied for positions as a Patient Registrar and Unit Clerk. I have thought about taking courses to become a Monitor Tech, but still trying to decide.

Anyway, I hope to become some type of Pediatric Nurse, and eventually Nurse Practitioner (or MAYBE CRNA, but we'll see when I get there).

Best of luck to all of you!
