Hi everyone just a question, im trying to word this so it wont be so long but anyway, how long did you wait after graduating lpn school to apply for RN school? Did you work a year & then apply of applied while in your last semester of lpn school or what?
I graduatedLPN school in mid-June 2008, started working a week later. I went back to school and started taking pre-reqs for the LPN to RN course in the Fall 2011 semester. Started the 2nd year nursing classes (where the LPN's start) Fall 2012 and graduate this coming May 2013.
In my state you can't apply for the LPN to RN bridge program unless you are already licensed as an LPN, so applying while in my last semester of LPN school wasn't an option.
I received my acceptance letter to a bridge program on June 1st, graduated from LPN school on June 12, passed my NCLEX in July and started a bridge program July 30th. I will be graduating RN school on May 10th, 2013. So it will take me about 1 year and 9 months total to get my RN. It will be the busiest, most challenging time of my life but for me it was worth it to get it done quickly!
I was lucky that my RN program did not require any prereqs. They also have a good reputation and a really good pass rate so I'm glad it worked out. Good luck to you!
Well. I wanted to shoot straight out of LPN school to The RN program, but the pre-requisites were that one needed to be working as a LPN and provide a letter. Took me 6 months to find a job and 2 months to start. I graduate next year in August. I was afraid that if I don't go back to school now, I'll never do it. Good luck and Happy Nursing!
Just curious...if rn was your original goal without a job inbetween, why did you not go straight for that?
I waited 6 years to go back. As soon as I felt comfortable with him staying home alone for more than just a couple of hours, I started. Most LPN/RN progrmas require 1 year work as a LPN, at least the three I looked at in my area did, but I understood that one year to be by the start date of the program not the application date. Check on that.
I know you are probably schooled out, but go back as soon as you can. Don't put this on the back burner. In my area, if you don't want to work in home health or a nursing home, you really don't have many other options. No hospitals (that I know of) here are hiring LVNs.
I graduate in 8 days and I will finish my BSN this time next year.
Best of luck!!

I Graduated May 2010, started working at a nursing home since I had already been a CNA there already which helped me ease into a LPN position. I work full time at a local hospital fulltime and was hired in the outpatient medical surgical department as a pre-op nurse. (which I love). I started pre-nursing pre-reqs Jan. 2011. This is my last semester (Fall 2012) at the local community college in Norfolk, VA. I applied to a ASN RN program this past September and anxiously awaiting my letter (shoud here something before Thanksgiving---I hope). I went straight through meaning, I took classes every semester including summers. (10 credits= 3 classes). I tried to take my classes needed for my BSN along the way. Good luck with whatever you decide.
