my first clinical for med-surg was in a LTAC.

loved this post below especially the part about Med-Surg easier than LTAC. :)

I worked in a LTAC as a CNA and 40% were on Vents. Some people died. Because most could not get out of bed we had to do total care on them. Talk about pouring sweat!

appreciate your comment.....yes it is very hard work...and I too have poured sweat :)......the reason i started this post is that if you are an LTAC nurse you are defintely considered a med-surg nurse. Some in my facility did go to major hospitals and work in their med-surg and icu areas. Once they see you have at least a year in LTAC you can get into other fields if you want to with no difficulties. So bottom line is if you can not get into a med-surg floor try a LTAC hospital......

all the best to you......

Yup! In the LTAC hospital I worked in they called it med/surg. Some hospitals around here advertise will accept LTAC experience. As an LVN student at the time, me and another student who worked there went to our DON to tell her what good exp this was and to have our school go there if possible because we could get all sorts of good experience with vented pt's which you cannot get in the nursing homes our school took us to.
