I"m soo glad I found this post! I'll be starting my pre-reqs at LBCC this fall!

What does the nursing program there require from you? Do you have to be a CNA...is it gpa...volunteering...what??

I would love any info as well...and wouldnt mind meeting some ppl at the school too!

Thanks!

Sammygrll,

You will want to attend an information session that the nursing department at LBCC holds on various days of the month. You should be able to get most of your questions answered at these meetings. I also had been looking at this post to see if there was any additional postings, but yours was the only one recently. I finished my pre-reqs and have applied to the RN program for a Spring 08 start. I just need to wait for the letter in the mail some time this fall, with any luck!

Good luck with your pre-reqs - hang in there :monkeydance:

Hey Everyone,

My sister and I are starting our pre-req's @ LBCC this month. We would love to attend the RN program there, but hoping I will be able to fing an evening school locally. We should be able to apply for the RN program fall of 2008 :roll Any ways would love to meet a couple of people that might be attending at the same time.:biere:

hey my sister & will be starting our pre reqs there too, what classes are you going to take?

they make you turn in your hs diploma or transcripts even if you have a bachelor's degree. i'd like to go there if i go adn. but damn man, i have to travel out of town to dig that stuff up. i might miss the cutoff for spring 08 consideration. what a %^&**^ hassle!

I'll be taking Pharmacology, medical term, adult development and stress on elder caregivers along with water aerobics this fall. I finished all my pre-reqs and applied for the RN program at the end of June for a spring 08 start. Maybe I will see some of you on campus! :smiletea2: oop's forgot prep for nursing too - and I work full time too = I have no life in preparation for the RN program!!!

Hi Grumpy.....do you work in the area? I work full time too and am literraly starting my pre reqs. Think I am going to take math Anat. & english. :bluecry1: and I work full time. :banghead: do you know of any schools that might have at least a part time evening program? I will have to quit my job if I can't find one in a year, but I work for a hosp. so I really would love to upgrade my job from gofer to rn.

Hi Stestime,

Yes, I do work in the area - but my company is BIG on offshoring all our work  which is one of the reasons that I am pursuing a second career. Since you are just starting your pre-reqs, you should be able to take those all in the evening (I did).

Have you attended LBCC in the past? I ask because of the way they schedule registration for classes - the more credits you have under your belt, the higher or sooner you can sign up for the next semester. Are you already enrolled in the classes that you want? If not, and you can get on the waiting list for the Anatomy class, don't lose hope - go to the first class and the instructor MAY have space - though this is not always the case - you just have to keep trying. :uhoh3: It took me 3 semesters before I got into Anatomy.

As far as an evening RN program - you may want to check out some of the other local CCs and see what they offer as well. My CNA instructor told us not to put all of our 'eggs in one basket' and apply to as many of the local programs as possible. Or wait until you have all or almost all of your pre-reqs completed before looking into a program that will fit your needs.

LBCC RN program really wants you to be ready to graduate BEFORE getting in or at least they say it's 'highly recommended' - so if you have other general ed classes that you need to take, you may want to take those as well before applying.

Since you work for a hospital, you may want to ask if they will work around your RN school schedule. I heard that LB memorial offers help if you sign a 2 year contract (though from what I've seen on this board, no one recommends signing a contract for that long ;) ). I guess it is personal preference.

Anyway, this is longer than I intended - good luck. Let me know how it works out for you! :nurse:

hey my sister & will be starting our pre reqs there too, what classes are you going to take?

Heyy...so far I've been at LBCC for 3 wks now. Taking 5 classess, humanities, algebra, speech, reading, and sociology...

I would love to meet some ppl at the campus! Send me a message :)

For anyone looking for a night RN program there is one through El Camino College sponsored by Little Company of Mary hospital in Torrance. The program is nights and weekends so people can work during the day or take care of their children. It is a two year ADN program and meets at the hospital for all classes.

Hope this is helpful :)
