lonestar nursing 2014 hopeful

Published

Hi, just wanted to start a post about my process of applying at lonestar. Hope to hear from other applicants! I have just taken my HESI and will be applying for the spring semester with a score of 11.54

Has anyone heard anything back about the NCLEX RN prepu not being in the book package?[/quote

What the heck.....This is not our fault....We bought what they told us to do...Even the bookstore says get this box and The Wong book and that's it....(unless of course you are taking pharmacology) With that I mentioned to the lady at the bookstore that I was taking Pharmacology as well and her mouth literally dropped open. She could not believe that I was taking this course while in the nursing program. She acted as if it would be impossible for me to do it...To me this is just one more person who is trying to stand in my way to awesomeness....I have had faculty at Lone Star one to many times that have tried to steer me away from dream as being nurse. Telling me that it is too competitive and that there is other things out there to consider doing as career. You know what I love nursing and I am glad I did not listen to any of them or let them change mind.

Did anyone else get a little overwhelmed when they opened up their book bundle? Cause I sure as hell did.....lol...Just for a brief moment however

After receiving an appeal approval, I woke this morning to a notification of denial. I'm now in the second appeal process. I must have financial aid as I do not have any other resources. It is a shame that they do not realize the impact this has on a person when you are told only days before starting classes. I don't have a magic hat to pull money out of. I'm a college student. Hopefully the 2nd appeal will go through on Friday. That is all I can pray for. Is there anyone else other than Momma D, waiting on second appeals?

It seems as if they are denying people left and right....Don't give up and keep trying. These people that make these king of decisions are probably hoping that you give up after the first denial, not expecting a fight from you. So give it to them!!

I omitted the Research Paper textbook because at this point in one's academic career, it's useless. Also, I omitted the Nursing Care Planning as I already owned it. Granted there are options to purchase used books and/or to rent, however, most of these books are cross used between the classes and some may roll over into the following semester. As is typical with textbooks, don't expect to get jack-$hit back. Either way, Amazon had all but 2 in stock with free 2-day delivery if a Prime Member, the other two books will arrive next Wednesday, so such is life, the professors understand the availability limitations of books and/or finances.

The only other items necessary are patience and thick skin, nursing school is a marathon not a sprint and it's cut throat and tedious and requires you be able to roll with the punches, bite your tongue, and take a lot of flak from peers, professors, nurses, patients, doctors, and the like.

Enjoy the final weekend, say goodbye to social lives, free time, sleep, and sanity.

Did anybody buy the books that were recommended.

I haven't. Maybe I will but it will probably be after school starts to see what additional help I may need.

Jenn it is 24.99 for the app. I have it

Is the app the same as having the actual drug guide?

I really think that the app is the same...When I clicked on the link it offered the app or the book

I'm waiting on the first appeal process :/ turned stuff in on Monday.
Hello! Im new to the site but I think I may be able to help out those of you that are struggling for an approved appeal. Mine was approved recently after a lot of circling around the campus. The reason why mine was declined the first time was because they had not changed my degree plan in the system. They had me under Arts which made it seem that I had too many credits because of my previous degree. I hope this helps.
What do we have them change it to? The nursing major I can't remember the letters but if that's the case I'll talk to an advisor tomorrow to have that done ASAP!

Ok so it looks like kingwood already changed my major to nursing sooooo hopefully everything else will work itself out for my appeal process :0 *fingers crossed*

There is a specific person that needs to do this for you at the Student Center for Kingwood. I dont know how to send you a personal message to tell your their name but if you go to VA she can tell you who you need to talk to. Tell this to student center and see if they can send the person a persnal message if you cant be seen. After the person does this change, go to financial aid telling them of this change.

Yeah, I hope it works out for you Aleeceness. I was stressed trying to figure out how I would pay for everything before the approval.
