lonestar nursing 2014 hopeful

Published

Hi, just wanted to start a post about my process of applying at lonestar. Hope to hear from other applicants! I have just taken my HESI and will be applying for the spring semester with a score of 11.54

I am in the Cyfair afternoon classes too :0) I do have a few questions before class begins...in orientation they mentioned that in lab we could wear whichever color scrubs we choose as long as they are solid colors, is that correct? Can the pants and shirts be different colors as long as they are both solid, or do the have to be a matching set? I understand the shoes just have to be close toed shoes (tennis shoes), but not any particular color? Is anyone else having an issue with the 1st semester not adding up to being a "full" credit load for financial aid, if so, are you taking any additional classes to reach 12 credits? Sorry for the peppering of questions, thanks in advance for your help!! Hope you are all doing well and settling into this new adventure!!

What box are y'all talking about?

Solid and matching scrubs are worn in labs and clinicals. Black obviously for clinicals, any solid matching scrubs for lab.

Shoes are supposed to be closed toe, all white with white non-marking sole. This is listed in the Student handbook on page 27 and page 8 of the appendix B

is it on the left shoulder of the labcoat or scrub top? Lady bookstore had no idea

Both.

Just a heads up to the Cy-Fair students, in your clinical skills classes, you cannot use your laptop, iPad's, or other devices to view textbooks. They are not aloud in the class. You can use them only in your Health Assessment and Intro to Nursing class. You will need a hard copy of your skills book. And for those wondering what you should study for before you get your books...I would look on YouTube and watch videos on how to perform head to toe assessments and really familiarize yourself with the techniques they're using and the communication skills they use with their patient. That is what you'll be doing all semester in health assessment class. Toward the end of the semester, you will have to perform it in front of your instructor. You only get 3 chances to get it right, and you only have 25 minutes to complete it. Start brushing up on your cranial nerves. You will also need to buy a blood pressure cuff for skills class. You will have a vital signs practicum to do in front of your instructor. Start doing blood pressures on anyone you know who will let you practice on them. Let me know if you have any other questions about your upcoming first semester. I'm happy to help. :)

Oh and about the "matching scrubs". Not sure if it changed from last semester, but we were aloud to wear mismatch tops and bottoms as long as they were solid color with no patterns. I just wouldn't wear anything to crazy together as to not look unprofessional. I'm pretty sure they're only ok with colored pant scrub bottoms with a white scrub top, that's really the only way I saw people do it. I wore my scrubs like that sometimes.

That's some helpful information. I'm attending Kingwood. I don't know whether we wear regular clothes or scrubs to class.

Sorry, I don't know about Kingwood, but for Cy-Fair, whenever you're in the lab, you have to wear scrubs because it is considered to be like a clinical setting. For our lecture class on Thursdays, you wear regular clothes. Some days, though, people would wear their scrubs, so that they could go to the lab and practice skills after lecture was over.

I guess CyFair is still in the 17th century :(

My financial aid appeal was denied. ?
Did you turn in all the forms like the advising sheet along with your degree plan? I'm worried about my appeal bc I thought that once you're in a program they would make an exception :/

They said that they used to allow it, but too many people abused the rules and would be on Facebook or other sites while in class, so those people ruined it for everyone else.

Aleeceness, yes I turned in everything they requested.
