Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!

Published

Ok I know it's very early starting this but I am so excited I couldn't help it! Application period doesn't even start until January! My journey has been a long one and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so I am sharing a little of that experience here and I would love to hear from others as well.

I just received my clearance letter from the BON so I am clear to apply in January for North Harris and Montgomery ADN programs, unfortunately I missed Kingwood. At this point I have an 11.1 and I'm about to retake the HESI so we shall see what is in store for me. I'm done with all my pre-reqs for my BSN and I'm so ready to start the next phase of my education and get on with more taking care of people! It's been 25 years since I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Twenty years of raising my kids, taking care of soldiers' families and single soldiers and eight years of riding in an ambulance later, I'm ready to follow my dream! Watch me go!

I have a 10.06 im missing micro and ap2

Jennjenn0205,

what is the program like? I know a lot of reading and all but everything else. I have an 11 month old and I'll have to work 2-3 days a week but otherwise I have an extremely supportive family. So I plan on doing my absolute best.

If you have a supportive family and you are using that supportive family than that's great. I have two children and two step children. You will realize once you start the program who is really here to support you and who isn't. The instructors I have I like very much and do not have much bad to say about that. At Kingwood, we have lecture, lab, and clinicals. The instructors tell us that you should be studying at least 25 hours week for lecture by itself. We have had two exams already and will have the third tomorrow. Our class averages on both exams have been 71 and 72.

I stay at my mothers house every Friday thru Sunday that way they I can get away from the kids to be able to study. The good thing is that it's only 16 weeks each semester so don't feel too bad when you are not spending as much time with your kids. I just keep telling myself that I get out of school a month before they do and will have all summer to spend with them.

Well I got in with a low score so I am a big firm believer on anything is possible. I was accepted with 11.1468 to the ADN program.

That is a lot higher than mine but i am hopeful

Hey Jennjenn!! I am so hoping to get in this time around. I would have gotten in last semester had I gone to orientation :( but everything happens for a reason. I am praying for this go around to be as fortunate!!

Hey girl, how are you?

I thought you got an acceptance call for Kingwood?

I am hanging in there and school is no joke. lol

You know I did all this research on how to get into the program and now need info about how many actually finish the program. I am a little worried and just looking for some reassurance.

So you applied this time around to what program?

Hey been doing good! No I did not I was told that I forfeited my spot at cy fair because I was not able to attend the orientation :( this time around I applied to Cy fair my first choice and North Harris for my second.

My friend that graduated from North Harris told me that since the learning structure is different there that it is more tough and since they accept so many students their graduation rate is only at about half. I can't remember how it is different she said it's something like instead of learning a certain subject all at once it is spaced out or something like that.

I only have to work untill the beginning of January for insurance untill I can get on my husbands. My family is great and does everything they can to help, I only have one kid so I can only imagine 4! And a lot times I can get some studying done at work. I'm a pharmacy tech so there is some drug and math practice atleast! Thanks for all your help!

How many days a week are the clinicals?

one day for clinicals. Right now at Kingwood I got to school from 9:30 to 11:45 for lecture, again same time on Tuesday but have lab afterwards for two more hours. Than clinicals is on Wednesday from 6:30 am till 4 pm. It's a easy schedule just demanding studying time

You just made me feel a whole lot better. Well wish me luck on tomorrow's exam because I really do need it.

I am sure that you will get in to the program this time around. I know it.
