Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!

Published

Ok I know it's very early starting this but I am so excited I couldn't help it! Application period doesn't even start until January! My journey has been a long one and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so I am sharing a little of that experience here and I would love to hear from others as well.

I just received my clearance letter from the BON so I am clear to apply in January for North Harris and Montgomery ADN programs, unfortunately I missed Kingwood. At this point I have an 11.1 and I'm about to retake the HESI so we shall see what is in store for me. I'm done with all my pre-reqs for my BSN and I'm so ready to start the next phase of my education and get on with more taking care of people! It's been 25 years since I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Twenty years of raising my kids, taking care of soldiers' families and single soldiers and eight years of riding in an ambulance later, I'm ready to follow my dream! Watch me go!

Hello! Have you guys taken pharmacology? I have not but would it count against our scoring chart if I have not taken this class yet?

Hi an07!

Pharm isn't a prereq for applying so it will not affect your score. It is recommended that you take it before going into the program but isnt required until second semester. Hope that helps!

Springhousewife- Great! I'm glad you got that done. I took my cpr recert online so just I need to make an appointment to take my skills section and I'll be done with mine too! My physical can wait till this summer, lol!

Welcom Lonab04! If you go to the AHA website it will point you in the right direction for you certification! It allows you to search for classes in your area. I even did mine online for $22 now I just have to make an appointment at the FD (in my case) to take my skills section. They will let me know their charge for this when it's confirmed but it wont be much. Hope that helps you too, Red!

I went to the American heart association website and found a location off of 1960. It was $45 and took two hours. I have never had a CPR cert before so idk if that affects the cost. The instructor was super helpful and very nice.

To be more exact it was 1960 close to I45. Also make sure you get the BLS CPR cert for healthcare providers.

Did everyone who applied to the lvn program get the email this morning? So happy that signing the letter of intent does not take you off the adn list. :)

I was just looking at the thread from last year and Montgomery students found out about 2 weeks after everyone else. I think Montgomery sends out traditional mail instead of email. MAYBE we will get lucky and they will change it this year! The students accepted to Montgomery didn't get their letters until April 17! UGGHH! TIME MOVE FASTER! :nailbiting:

I got my lvn acceptance through email and then got the letter through mail a couple days later. Maybe they will do email with the adn program too that would be awesome. Anyone doing the lvn program having trouble finding the demographics form we are supposed to upload to certified profile? That's the only form not on there so idk where to find it. I'll probably call tomorrow and see what they say.

Hi Everyone!!!!

First congrats to everyone for your achievements thus far!!! I recently just took my HESI Feb.3 and passed, but didn't get as high of scores as I'd hoped! But I passed! I' am planning to apply into the LVN and ADN programs, but I' am SO SCARED about my score because its very low, but I still want to apply because you never know. My score for the LVN is 6.44 and my score for the ASN is 10.44. It makes me so nervous, because I know course that they're are much higher scores, but I just want to give it a shot! I'm so tired of the situation I'm in, I just would love to get my foot in the door!

Welcome Twinkletoes86! Congrats on passing the Hesi, go you! I was suppose to take it Thursday but will have to wait until next week. So ready to get it over with! Dont worry too much about your score, worry causes wrinkles and who needs those? I know of people who have gotten into N.H with that score and chosen as alternates at other campuses with the same score then called up. So go for it! You never know what the pool of applicants is going to look like. And dont give up just keep trying! Good luck!

Hi SparklesMedic!

Thanks for the encouraging words! They seriously help so much! This was my second time taking the HESI. I took it first in August of 2012 and did ok, but missed Vocab with a 74! I was so disappointed. This time I made an 86!! Then previously I made a 94 on the math, but this time I only made an 80! That got to me! I think it was because I practiced so many of the math problems, but did not practice the word problems as much, and the test I took just so happen to have a lot of word problems and I was completely stumped and the pressure got to me. If I wouldn't have panicked I could have probably figured them out. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask! SUPER HUGE GOOD LUCK TO YOU AS WELL!!!!

I did something similar the first time I took it, how funny! I made a 74 on the math and aced the rest! I was pretty peeved for awhile lol but im feeling pretty good about this round. Just waiting for hubby to have a day off so he can watch the kids! Cross your fingers for me!

Hi SparklesMedic,

I just didn't mean to disappear, but I had foot surgery and it has taken me sometime to get back online. Wish you well. Let me know how it goes.
