I will be applying for the ADN program in January. I wonder if anyone knows of all the "lonestar" schools, which gives the best attention to its NS? This will be a second career for me. I have a Psych degree. I've takenAP I over(rcvd A), and will take AP II in the fall. My GPA is 3.5, and I'd like to keep it there or better. I grad college 15yrs ago...no time to waste if the instructors do not really care??????????pls help with any info...

I understand your concern for wanting to go into the best program. It's so difficult right now to get into a nursing program in Houston, so if you get into a program, go to the school. Most of your "education" will occur once you start your first job. It's true that you some new nurses start out with a higher level of skills when they start their first job, but after the first couple of months, most skills even out, and then it didn't really matter what school you went to.
Mz Eboni,
Your best source of info can be found on the school website www.lonestar.edu, nursing(search engine). You can only take the Hesi test during the app period, which the next one will be sometime in January. They only take the most recent test score. Focus on reading and math, I know its not much info on my part, but I HTH.
I'm in the Kingwood program and love it! It has its flaws like any other program but overall I get a very helpful vibe from all the instructors. I just finished my first semester and I had a great clinical instructor and really feel like I learned so much. Also I don't know if you'd be interested in it or not, but Kingwood is launching its online program for students with another degree already. Since you already have a degree that could be something to look into! Best of luck to you!
Do you know when this program is suppose to begin? I already have my bachelor's degree and am doing the career-switch thing as well. I will check out their website; however, if you have any other info, I would love to hear about it!

If you have a psych degree why not go to a university rn program to get your bachelors in nursing. The university of texas has a fast track 1 year program for people with degrees. Most un. only require 2 years for nursing program if you have a degree. Are you sure you want to go 2 years for an associate degree in rn when you can get your bach in rn also in 2 years?
My advice apply to all colleges that you can, it's VERY competitive! I think I posted before in this thread, and BTW I was accepted to the North Harris Program and I'm graduating now in may 2010!
I had applied to 3 universities and 2 comm colleges when I was applying so basically I have all the pre-reqs I need for my BA, so now after I graduate I can hopefully get my job to pay for it!
Good luck though!

Don't worry, I know a couple people who have gone there and they did fine : )
I'm sure there are problems with every program. You just have to keep the end result in mind.
