Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
I've done this type of post previously, but since there have been so many posts about points, it's time to do it again.
You can make at most 4 points for your GPA in ENGL 1301, PSYC 2301, and BIOL 2401 or 2402. What if you have a B? If the higher of BIOL 2401 or 2402 is a B, your GPA cannot be any higher than 3.6. Assuming you have 27 hours completed, the highest score you can possibly make is 3.6 + 4 + 4 = 11.6. You'll have to make a perfect score on the reading test to get an 11.6 if you have a B in anatomy. Is that realistic? Probably not. That means with a B in anatomy, you're going to have less than 11.6. Is that enough to get in?
Suppose you have a B in ENGL 1301 and a B in PSYC 2301 and an A in anatomy. Your GPA is 3.4. If you make a perfect score on the HESI reading test, your score is 11.4. Do you think a perfect score is possible? Do you think an 11.4 is high enough to be accepted?
If you have a B in anatomy and a B in either English or psychology, your GPA is 3.3. You're aren't getting admitted until you replace at least one of those B grades with an A.
If you have only one B and it is in either English or psychology, your GPA is 3.7. You need a perfect reading score to have a score of 11.7. If you make a 95 in reading, your score drops to 11.5.
Now that you've seen the calculations, do you think you can get accepted with less than all A's in English, psyc, and anatomy?
Hello all
I am a first-time poster but have been reading the posts for a long time. This will be my 3rd time applying to Cy fair and I finally have a score of 12! I've been finishing my last classes up to get my score higher. I'm also taking Pharm online from Kingwood this Fall. Someone asked if the Pharm 1301 class will transfer and it does. I asked the Cy Fair office a couple of weeks ago specifically if the Kingwood Pharm 1301 will transfer and she said yes.
Good luck to everyone! :)

A 12? That's awesome. Congrats!

FruityPebble has nothing to worry about. Congratulations on your perfect score. I am a bit concerned about my score. Three people have the same score as me. I really do not want to risk my score in an attempt to score a few points higher but it may be necessary. This is going to be the longest wait of my life. Hurry up October! :)
fruitypebble, i am truly impressed. congratulations for your acceptance into the school of your choice!
this list reminds me of the hesi math test questions where you have to identify the largest number. :)

formatting the columns to make things line up was a pain. when multiple spaces are entered, only one space is saved. i used underscores and changed them to white to make the spacing work. it may not work in all browsers
Thank you guys for the congrats! I wish I had known about the cut off numbers a year ago when I first applied! I would have saved myself a lot of tears and grief. LOL
I'm sorry I cannot reply to your personal message, jpchouston, apparently I'm not established enough on this website to PM, so it says. But the answer to your question.... I managed to get a 100 on the Eng portion and 98 on the math portion of the HESI by studying the HESI evolve reach Admission Assessment Exam Review and the HESI Admission Assessment Study Guide. The questions on the English portion are kind of tricky so you have to really read and re read to make sure you know exactly what point they are emphasizing. Sometimes there can be 2 answers that are correct, but one is more correct than the other. LOL I laugh when I read some advice to not over-think it, but IMHO, you must over-think it to see every angle in which the question is posed. If you miss the emphasis, you could miss the question. Hope I've made sense.

We are tied and I'm definitely not as confident as I was when I first realized I only missed three reading questions!!! uuuggghhhh.........
Everyone I know keeps saying, "oh you will get in" but they don't get it. It isn't based off of my work history (13 years in healthcare), my grades (except those 3 classes), etc...it is based off this crazy reading comprehension test. Crazy!!
Good scores!!!!!!

Good scores!!!!!!
Remember everyone math score is the tie breaker. :) I know I am actually quite irritatied at this whole process...sorry I know I will probably be blasted but the process is strange to me that so much is riding on that stupid reading score. I feel that more emphasis should be placed on individuals who only take Anatomy I and II ONE time and receive an A. I had students in class with me who were on thier THIRD attempt to make an A and they were only taking that COURSE!! I feel that these students will get into nursing and not be able to handle the fast pace and the intense work load involved. They were all also obsessed with getting into certain professors classes because they were "easier" you don't need easy in nursing you need good information and instructors who challange you. Has to be a better way for admission...anyway :)

I agree with you. I think an interview would also be a huge help!

There are 50 reading questions and 50 math questions.
Since some people will apply elsewhere, 50 questions is the norm. I think anatomy, biology, and chemistry were all 50 questions each, but I'm not completely sure.
