Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

Don’t be discouraged. And you have until the 25th to retake it . There’s a lot of great scores out there . We can only pray that we get in

If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me. I’m going into my second semester at the Kingwood campus in August. I was accepted off of the alternate list with a 7.456 last admission period. I ended up getting 2 A’s and 1 B (89.04 lol) my first semester!! If you are going to the Kingwood program, I’d personally suggest taking pharm before getting in. It will be a load off your back. I took it during the fall of last year before I got in. Also I’d recommend taking your micro and a&p 2 early if you haven’t yet. That is less stress for you. It is very competitive getting in but I’m doing well and I was accepted as an alternate so keep your heads high! You will get in and do well ? Again, if you have any questions, let me know. My email is [email protected] if you need to email personally. I’m here to help as much as I can.

Congratulations! You have made it so far. Any advice ? I take my hesi on the 25th. How is it being in the program. I’m a nervous wreck about the hesi, but I’m praying I get in .

You will get in, no worries. I used the Hesi A2 book to study. I took the hesi after studying 2 days while on vacation lol the math and reading sections were pretty basic. I used the hesi book to review A&P, grammar and vocabulary. You can also look at quizlets. That helped me a lot. Some of the same words were on my exam as on quizlet.

I can honestly say the first semester wasn’t too bad. I would say you will need to study at least a week before exams. I would not procrastinate. I ended up taking night classes and I love that they give you that option. You have more time to study for exams because they will be during the evening. My personal tips for studying are the read over their powerpoints, listen to lectures again (they record lectures for you to go back and listen to which is a plus) and study the nclex questions they give you. The nclex questions they give are a HUGE plus. They’ll be posted on discussion boards on D2L before exams. I also reviewed my notes. I didn’t really read the books to be honest and I did well.

The part that stressed me out the most were the skills labs! OMG, I was a nervous mess before each skills check off. Lol you get 3 attempts to pass each skill. I know some programs only give you 1 attempt. Kingwood gives you 3. So they want you to pass. They are very helpful if you need any assistance. For skills, you will need to practice, practice, practice. They have open labs that you can come in and practice during the week before you perform the skills check off. Take advantage of this!

Did you happen to get A’s for your 2 required courses ?

Yes, I made an A in both.

Thank you so much ! And wow you only studied for two days ? That’s amazing . I’m just nervous, because the scores are getting higher and higher each semester.

Yes it’s very competitive but you WILL get in. Speak it into existence and it shall come. Even on the alternate list, I always spoke it into existence. Pray about it. God has a plan for all of us. Stay positive and focused. Study on quizlet and use the hesi book. That helps a lot.

Yes, I’ve been praying hard about it . Quicker actually deleted a lot of the helpful files people were posting in our hesi group. I’ll have to look for more quizlet files . I saw a lot for critical thinking but not much on anatomy now .

I can try and look and see if I can find any helpful resources. When you’re taking the exam, I’d recommend taking breaks between sections. After you’ve finished one section, take a 5-10 minute break to refocus before the next section. I started with the easier sections first. I think you’re given 5 hours? I can’t remember. So take the sections you know most about first then you’ll have more time for the sections you may be weaker at.

Do you literally select a first option when submitting your app? If so, how does that play out as far where you stand for the other location thats available?

Are you talking about selecting which campus you would like to attend?

if so, you rank the campuses in order that you like if you dont get select for your first campus (meaning your score isn’t high enough to get in) you move to the next campus on your list!

If you do make the alternate list don’t get discouraged! I was on the alternate list with like 6 ppl or more ahead of me and i was called off the list and I’m starting in the fall!! Keep your head up and keep positive about this! Things will turn out how they are suppose to!!
