Lone Star Kingwood 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

Hey guys! I am going to be applying next year for the 2011 ADN program at Kingwood College, so I am just now taking A&P1 and Lifespan, etc. I have a couple of questions for you more experienced folks if you don't mind answering....

My first question is about PSYCH 2301. I took it back in 2001. At that time, I was young and not planning on a nursing career, so I blew it off and made a B. I would like to retake it so I can make an A but I didn't know if that's allowed? I know it is with A&P classes, but can I also retake the general psych?

Also, can I take the HESI exam next week to just try it out and know what I have to look forward to next year or would that somehow go against me if I bomb it? I was thinking I could take it now while I'm not stressing and it's not a last minute thing and who knows, I may do good. If so, could I use those scores? And if I do poorly, can I retake it next year or will these scores be held against me?

Thanks in advance for your help! I hope you all get in to the 2010 program! Congrats on all the hard work you've done to get this far and good luck with all the hard work you have ahead of you!!!

Hello, my advice to you is to re-take the PSYCH to get an "A". To get into the ADN programs at any LoneStar campus, you must have a total of 12 POINTS. 4 POINTS come from the 3 courses that are required (AP1 or AP2, PSYCH 2301 & ENGL 1301). Remember, making "A's" in AP 1 or AP 2, PSYCH 2301 & ENGL 1301 will give you the edge you need. You will also gain 4 POINTS taking 27-31 hours of the required non-nursing courses. The remaining 4 points will come from your HESI reading comprehension score. This will give you a total of 12 points. I suggest you gain the 8 points by completing all of your required courses. The HESI reading comprehension and the math portion will be scored by the reading comprehension is the score divided by 25 that will give you the remaing points to get 12 or as close to 12 points to be competitive among all the ADN applicants. If you chose to take the HESI now, what ever score you attain will be in your file. If you take it later and sore lower, the score that will be recoreded is the most recent score. I suggest you complete all of your required courses, study for the HESI, and take the HESI once you have complete all of the courses assuring you have all of the 8 points. Having all the 8 points takes some pressure off of you having to make a 100% on the reading portion. Good luck to you. I assure you we have all been where you are. Don't give up:wink2:

Go to the Lone Star website, click on the nursing tab and see the ADN scoring criteria guide. This will help you.

I can not stress enough to you how important it is to get ALL A's in your pre reqs! When it comes time for you to apply, this could screw up your chances of getting into the program and most probably will! If you have the time to re take Psych, I would def. do so bc then you need to count on making a near perfect score on the Hesi. I know someone in you position right now and she wishes so bad she would have took her Eng class over to recieve the A. She will probably have to wait....AGAIN...to apply. We all know how frustrating this can be! So def. if you do have the time to re take it, do it! Good Luck!! I hope this helped. LJ...the post before told everything, but I thought I would try and stress how important this is and how much this WILL affect you when time to apply.

Hi everyone. After reading everyone's posting and seeing that everyone have such a high score, I am a little bummed about mines. I took the Hesi test today and I made an 80.4 on my reading and a 94.0 on my math. I total up my scores and I only got a total of 10.9. (I got a B in A&P I, which didn't give me that 4). :banghead: This sucks and I just know I wont be able to get in anymore after reading that everyone has 11ish. I wish everyone goodluck.

Hello, please don't give up. I really advise that you re-take AP I or take AP II and make sure you get an "A" in either class as well as an "A" in PSYCH 2301 and ENG 1301. That should give you your full 4 points. Have you taken the majority (27-31 hours) of the additional pre-reqs that will give you 4 more points? The more "A"s you get will take off some of the pressure of having to make the perfect reading score to get as close to the 12 points as possible. Just re-evaluate what classes you must re-take to get you ready for the next application period. Study, study, study the reading portion of the HESI. It looks like you have the math portion very well understood. Just re-take your AP I or AP II class, re-take the HESI and re-apply. Don't give up:wink2:

Congrats to everyone on their hard work. I'm gonna check my online app. I didn't see any "your app has been submitted" message. Everyone chime in and tell me if they received this message. :)

When I log-in, I do not have that message. However, when I turned in the paper copies to Cyfair, they gave me a receipt for the paperwork and said I was done. All I had left to do was wait...arguably the most frustrating part imo. Maybe it is different at Kingwood vs. Cyfair, but Cyfair said all the item they needed were paper copies signed, nothing had to be submitted online. All I know is what the Cyfair nursing office has told me.

Good luck to everyone. :)

Thanks sooooooo much for your advice! I will plan on retaking Psych 2301 next semester. I am already so worried about making an A in A&P that I can't sleep at night! I need to relax. All I can do is try my hardest.

I suppose I should get used to the stress, because after this, I'd like to get my BSN and eventually a Masters. If the ADN program is this competitive, I can only imagine how hard the others are!

Good luck to all of you who are waiting to be accepted! I know it must be agonizing to just sit and wait after all the hard work you've done! I hope you all get in!!! :plsebeg:

Don't worry girl, I am in the same exact position as you! I want to eventually get a BSN then a Masters in Anesthesia (CRNA). I am determined and will not stop till I get there!!! Do you want to specialize in anything?

As for right now.....can these days go by ANY SLOWER??!!!?!?!?! :banghead: App deadline is in 5 days! I wish it was just October already!

I have a quick question for those of you that applying or enrolled in Lone Star's adn program. I am going to be applying for the 2011 application period. I chose to take some of my other courses for the bachelors program this semester since I had planned to apply to UT, but we've just moved and the closest program is Kingwood. I'm curious to find out about the health insurance requirement. I saw that somone had posted in this thread about how Lone Star is planning to offer a student option plan, does anyone have any information on this? I currently don't have insurance and I've been trying to do some research on student plans and so far it looks like close to $500 or more per semester just for me. So it's a bit pricey. I was just wanting to know if it's an absolute requirement and if there is a cheaper alternative for health insurance coverage for students?

Thanks for your time!

Take Care,

Sonseria

Absolutely! You have a great chance of getting in! You most probably will! :yeah:

We are only 6 days in and I know that the letter won't be coming in already, but gosh.....I'm getting extremely nervous now for some reason. I've been fine, but now all I do is think about it! lol The letters just need to hurry and get here!
