Lone Star Kingwood 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

ahhhh.....that's what I feel like right now! I don't show it much b/c I have sooo much other stuff to do...and I think that's a good thing. But does it really take THAT long to get the stuff together for the letters..lol Maybe it does, I have no idea. But it seems like forever has gone by already. anywho....I do believe that the only thing they go by is the score that equals GPA, credits, and HESI. I think once upon a time they looked at credentials and things like that but they do not anymore. Maybe some schools do, but not Lone Star. So I prolly gonna go check the mail now.....don't think there's anything in there..gonna check it anyways.. I will let yall know if there is! lol

Hey everyone! I am new to this website and I was wodering if anyone has heard from Cyfair when they will send out the letters. I am very hopeful that I get in, but we will see. I am so tired of waiting! I wonder why it takes them so long to get everything ready to send out the letters. :) Good luck to everyone!

This wait is terrible! I should've waited till the last minute to apply! lol It might not seem as long of a wait. I dunno! Has anyone heard anything? :banghead:

Nope nothing yet.....does anyone know where i can take a cpr class ?? I had taken a cpr class because of where i worked at but later found out that that is not the one I need for the nursing program..

I emailed Cyfair on Monday to ask about student health insurance and when they would mail out letters and all she said is that they don't know an exact date but it would be before the end of October. This has been the longest month ever! I'm really hopin I get in though. My score was an 11.82. For the CPR class I'm going to check HCC continuing education because their campus is close. Lonestar offers them too. As soon as you get a letter in the mail, post it on here!

Not sure where the information is coming from regarding not being able to get a job with an ADN. I am a 2nd semester student doing my clinicals at Kingwood Hospital and I have run across no less than 5 nurses there that graduated from Kingwood just last year. They are working in ED, IMU, and med/surg. They said they had no problems finding a job and in fact were offered jobs in the med center.

Well it depends on what side of town you live on but there are plenty of places to take the class. Just do a google search. Try checking the American Red Cross website first. Make sure it's CPR for healthcare providers with AED and that it's certified by the American Red Cross.

Hi Debbie613, Thats great to here! The folks I keep hearing that from are BSN friends of mine. I think they are a little biased. ; ) I'm sure that it will be very easy to find jobs so I'm not too worried about employment in TX. A few of my nurse friends on the east coast have had a difficult time finding employment with an ADN and I'm considering moving to NY, NJ or CT when I'm finished with school. But that's only for new grads, not RNs with experience. I don't think that will be an issue in Houston.

Does anyone know how the new grad residency/internships work?

I've read about Memorial Hermann's internship program for new nursing grads. Is that a requirement of most hospitals? Sounds like a great idea. I assume it's pretty competitive though.

Cyfair's website now says they mailed out letters yesterday! Good luck to everyone and thank God the wait is almost over!

Super Duper! Thanks for letting us know! Kingwood hasn't updated anything but I'm willing to bet they were mailed as well because those that didn't get into Kingwood might get into Cyfair and vice versa depending on what you selected as your first choice location. I will be stalking the mailman! :yeah:
