Lone Star Kingwood 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

I just officially handed in my application to cyfair yesterday and after reading somethings online about cutoff scores I've become extremely discouraged that I may not get in to the program for the spring. My score is 11.489 and I'm just worried that it's not good enough. I am frustrated b/c the only thing that brought my scores down was the HESI test. I made an 87 on the reading and a 90 on the math.... to me the reading part was strange and the answers that I thought were correct were not choices.... I already have a bachelors degree from SHSU and was a kindergarten teacher for 2 years so I know a thing or two about reading comp.... I'm just worried... I want to be in the program so badly, nursing is a calling for me and the sooner I can get out there and start supporting my family the better.... any thoughts anyone???

Don't lose hope. That was Cy-fair's cut off for Spring 2009. You have an excellent shot! Keep the faith :yeah:

Thanks TeeRN2Be,

I guess the only thing I can do at this point is remain positive... there's nothing I can do about my scores now. I guess if it's mean to be, it's meant to be. Hopefully I'll be in the program in January :)

I took my HESI and with the reading score included I will be turning in an application with 11.6596 pts. It is above last year's cutoff so I am optimistic! Just want to say good luck to everyone! It has been a long road but we are almost there!!!:)

First, I would to say good luck to everyone! My question is for anyone willing to answer. I am scheduled to take the HESI 4 the 3rd time (embarrasing):crying2:, on Sept. 2nd @ Kingwood college for entry into the Spring 2010 night program. I have been studying the HESI evolve review book as well as some NET reading comprehension material I found on the internet for 1 month or more. I have 13 days left to study until the "Big Day". I need to know what other source of material can I study to enhance my reading comprehension and math skills, but mainly reading comprehension. I have been going over the same material for a while now and I am not sure if the material I am currently using is enough. Besides having major anxiety:banghead: I want to be well prepared. I am studying 2 to 3 hours a day. I want to feel that I am on the right path, and I don't feel that way at this point. It is 11:25 pm and I reading the HESI evolve material again and feeling sick to my stomach:cry:, due to the fact that I must pass this HESI exam. I work a full time day job and have to apply for the only night program @ Kingwood. I want to be a nurse so bad. I must do well on the 2nd of September. Again, congrats to everyone.

First, I want to say we can NOT lose hope. We have come very far! All we can do now is pray and keep our fingers crossed! I am also right at the cut off according to the last couple years with an 11.49! This is why I started this thread! So we can help eachother cope with all these differents emotions! In all actuality, from everyone who has mentioned their scores, we all have a good chance in getting in!

Don't feel bad, I've taken the Hesi 3 times also. Something that reallly helped me is reading different things on the internet on do's and dont's taking a reading comp. test! I'm horrible at reading comp. but the things that I read on the internet really really helped! Don't study too much, you are going to drive yourself crazy! Third times a charm :wink2:. You will do fine! If you don't mind me asking, what parts are having problems with...are you just not understanding the passages?

Who are you kidding? We have the same score! And you've done well! :yeah: Don't get discouraged! I know it is stressful and hard not to, BUT let's be real.....how many people out there are getting much higher than that? I'm sure there are some.....BUT not many! I have a good feeling about all of us.....don't you worry!:wink2:

Thanks Coulter630... I hope you're right and I hope we all see each other in the spring in the program. Do you know anything about the program itself, like what days are classes and clinicals and things like that??? I wonder if anyone out there got a perfect 12? lol

I used THEA study review to help brush up on reading comprehension. If you are looking for more practice than what the insanely small HESI review book for reading comprehension, then I would take the reading comprehension tests from other college level tests. I specifically studied the reading comprehension out of a THEA study guide book I already owned. Also, remember to take deep breaths. My advice is to try not to overthink the question. If you have an answer that pops into your mind when you read the question go with it. Because I screwed myself royally by overthinking the questions. I should have learned by know my gut is usually better than trying to think the computer is being tricky like professors are. I wish you the best of luck with your test. I hope this helped you Good luck!!! :D

Coulter630, I have not applied yet, I am still waiting for my score sheet to update. I took Anatmoy 2402 and Microbioloy 2420 during the July summer session at Cyfair. My score sheet has not updated to reflect these two courses under the co-requisite category. Does anyone know how long the score sheet takes to update? Grades posted Saturday morning at Cyfair and they told me it took 24-48 hours. Well it's Thursday with no updating. I just want to apply to get rid of the anxiety and the nightmares where I wake up thinking I missed the deadline. :p Also, Coulter630 are you applying to Cyfair as your first choice or Kingwood as your first.

Can anyone help me with the confusion of Pharm and Lifespan classes? I went to the nursing information meeting and was told not to take Pharm or Lifespan classes before entering the program if I was applying to Cyfair. I know Kingwood recommends taking it, but since Cyfair is my primary choice I decided to go with their advice. However, in many of my classes there were several students who were taking Pharm and/or Lifespan currently. I called the nursing office again and they said it would be in my best interest to take it with the nursing courses. I just wanted to see what other people's opinions were of taking Pharm and Lifespan for Cyfair nursing program.

Does anyone know the times for classes in the nursing Cyfair program? If anyone could give any information on the Cyfair nursing program that would be awesome too. :D

They tell you don't take Pharm if you're applying to Cy-fair because if you do, you have to pass a hard math Pharm test administered by Cy-fair to consider it complete. I would not take Pharm if I was only applying to Cy-fair until the program when required and I think it is in the second or third semester. Cy-fair is in a league of their own...

As far as Life Span, that class was easy-peasy to me and I don't see any reason why not to take it during the Fall if you can. The class just went over psychology from birth-death as far as I can remember anyway. I can't remember the hours of Cy-fair program but I want to say they start at 8 and it's four days a week... really can't remember. Their uniforms are navy and orange, nothing like the other Lone Star system nursing programs and their program is a block program instead of integrated.

They turn out great nurses though... most say their program in one of the hardest in the system, but it's for the best. Good luck!

eeeira...I applied for Kingwood as my first choice bc its "closer" to me. lol Neither one of them are close at all...Montgomery is the closest and the one I attent right now. But they only accept 40 students and the app period starts in Jan. And I can't wait till then bc what if I don't get in anyways? So I will take wherever I will get in! As for your other questions.. I don't know how long it takes for grades to post. Are they still not showing? And Lifespan is just a Psych class from birth to death. It was pretty easy, got an A in it. I guess it just depends on the professor too! Pharm, I don't know much about and haven't taken it yet...which sux. :banghead: But from what I heard, (don't know the diff. bt cyfair and kingwood) to take it before you get in bc it can be overwhelming. But it can be done.

For the people that are in already....are we going to find out everything we need to know prior to entering (IF WE GET IN) ? I'm just wondering, bc that's kind of freaking me out! I just don't want to show up and there's something I'm missing....if that makes sense. :)

My grades finally posted yesterday and I turned in my application today. YAY :yeah: I asked a lot of questions today at Cyfair. They told me to take Lifespan after all so I am taking it this fall, but definitely not taking Pharm until in the program :p if I make the cut. The woman in the nurses office told me that we should know if we get in around mid October...about Oct 15th I think. She said there would be an information seminar in December for the people accepted. So we will find everything out we need to know then. I asked about my Hep B shot b/c I won't be able to get my 3rd one until Dec. 20th. The woman told me that it is fine as long as they are completed by the start of classes. Also, she told me to make sure that I get health insurance before the start of classes. The hospitals are requiring it now. So that is one thing to research if you don't already have health coverage. She also mentioned that LoneStar will be offering health coverage program for people who would like to go through the school. I am sure they will be going overall these things when we receive our acceptances.

I am really excited and nervous. I guess all that is left now is the countdown until mid October. Good luck to all the applicants. :D
