Lone Star Kingwood 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

Thank u. You are a God sent. I get depressed because I want this for my life soooo bad. I read other nursing applicant posters saying "I GOT IN" to whatever nursing program and drown myself in tears wishing it was me. I hope I can answer all the questions from the math and the reading within the time frame allotted. The reading comprehension, I must nail it. I read NET reading comp. practice tests, I read the HESI A2 study guide, I read some material that is available on the internet, over and over making copies 10 or more of the practice test in the book trying to absorb the material the best way I can. I have high test anxiety:banghead:. I feel comfortable when I take a test by myself, but when I am among other applicants I just drown in grief. I know I sound like a complete wreck, but my career of choice is at stake. I have been down this testing road 3 times. I have a full-time day job that supports my mortgage, so the only night program I can apply is for Kingwood. I have all the pre-reqs to apply for the BSN programs but my full-time day job is keeping the mortgage paid. Kingwood is my only shot.

Again, this is me all over! I also have test anxiety I found out recently. I can not stress enough to not OVER THINK the reading part!!! There are NO hiddent messages, everything you need is right there in the text! When reading, take it up a notch as far as reading speed. When reading the passages multiple times, it causes you to over analyze and cause you to also look for something that is NOT THERE!

The week of the test I did exactly everything I ever heard to do to prepare for a test like the hesi and I really think that everything helped. For example, a couple nights before the test, I was in bed with my eyes closed by 10:30pm. :zzzzz The night before, make sure you know if you don't already, exactly how to get to the school and where to go when you get there! Room number, etc. The morning of the test, I woke up early enough to not be in a rush to get ready, drive there, and allotted extra time in case something came up, which it did. There was an accident on the way there (my luck). On the way, I stopped at smoothie king and got a big fruit filled smoothie, drank on the way there and during the test. They tell you to have a full tummy bc of hunger being a huge distraction! And God knows the anxiety is enough! Same as looking at the clock = distraction! Bringing my "breakfast" in with me also prevented me from getting hungry or even thinking about food! They don't say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing! Think of anything that may be a distraction the day of the test, and try to find a solution for the what if's.

I didn't do any of these things the two times before and did very poorly! So I truly believe that these things helped a lot! Try it, you may find that it has worked for you too! Good Luck!!!!! Let me know how it goes. Stay calm, your going to do great. Don't be pessimistic...sp. Go in there knowing you are going to do just fine. ;) Keep me updated!

I live on veterans. I was asking in other for us to share information regarding the test if you're interested.:typing

I was really excited to find this thread. I am applying to the ADN program for Spring 2010. My first choice is Cyfair because it is closer to where I live and second choice is Kingwood. I really hope I make the cut, I spent all summer working hard to get every co-requisite done. As soon as my final two classes get added to my score sheet I will be able to submit my application with an 11.7448. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope to meet some of you in the program come January. :D

:yeah:

Good luck to all,

Good luck to you all!

I'm getting ready to enter Nursing II at Kingwood, for all of you trying for Kingwood, awesome choice! I love my school. I put all of my eggs in a basket and only applied to Kingwood because I have to work full time during the day to pay my mortgage, daycare, truck note, etc... and did I mention my 4 kiddos :wink2: I won't lie to you and tell you that it won't be hard but it is manageable, you just have to manage your time well and you should get by. My score was 11.7448 and I prayed that would get me in. Our Spring 2009 cut off was 11.45, so remember to study hard for the Reading part of Hesi... there is where most of your score comes from.

Try to enjoy the rest of your time off... to pass the time by I will tell you guys what some of the veterans told me. If you can, get a NCLEX book and start at least reading it. Other good books to buy are Fundamentals for Nursing Success and also Test Success for Beginning Nursing Students. Trust me, you'll thank me later. :smokin:Nursing test questions are nothing like you're used to so you might want to see how they are formatted. If I can help in anyway, please let me know.

Congrats to you all and good luck :yeah:

Well thanks so much for the advice! A couple questions though... CPR...should I wait to take it until I know I've gotten in, or should I get it out the way? Wondering....bc I know you have to renew it in I think 2 yrs...now. They've changed it. Also, 1172, it says that should be done prior to entering the program...dec. or jan. Is it a mini mester course....confused. Also, I know Kingwood has a couple different schedules. The offer evening...which is out for me. And day Mon and Wed. noon....and clinicals on thurs. fri. or sat?.....is that right? What other advice would you say will be useful prior to entering the program or even while hopefully I'm in? :wink2: Also, uniforms...or whatever you want to call it....what are they like? Hope I didn't bombard you too much :D. Just some things I've been wondering! Thanks again!!!

You're welcome :wink2: I would take CPR now to have it out of the way why you're still waiting on time to pass and make sure if you do take it, that it is the one for Healthcare Providers. When accepted, 1172 is in January and either for a month if you're doing it on Saturdays or for 4 days straight during the week. They offer day and evening courses. Day is 12:30-3:00PM I believe and evening is 5:00PM-7:30 or 8:00PM. Clinicals are Monday, Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat. Our uniforms are teal bottoms and white tops. Have you took Pharm yet? If not, I would try and get in a class and finish that prior to being admitted. I took Pharm with Fundamentals last semester and it was a little overwhelming. If you've already taken it, brush up on dosage calculations because you will have a test every semester starting with Level I. If you have any other questions, just ask
