Hello everyone!
I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday
and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.
Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.
I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter!
If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat
I have a question..not real sure what to do I have B's in the pre-reqs and majority A's in the co-reqs! Im not real sure what to do because I wanted to re-take some classes for a better grade but alot of them are not available in a minimester. Also I had took another entrance exam and got super high scores so Im not worried about the Hesi much! Any suggestions on what I should do??I really want to go ahead and apply!!! Thanks!!!
I am innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I'm so happy I wanna cry....Thank U JESUS!!!!Ok gotta buy books now And yes Coulter,Nina, and Camemile... we should meet up. If I left some1 out sorry...We may need only 4 people...What do u guys think???JUst don't want it too big, sometimes that can be a prob.

If you ladies that got in dont mind me asking what was your score and which school will you be at?? Any suggestions to me,Im getting ready to apply in January! Thanks!!
If you read all of the posts about Lone Star admissions, you'll see that the score to get accepted is something like 3.4. Depending on the scores of the other applicants, it could be a little more or a little less. The highest scores are taken, so there is variation from semester to semester. Here are the scoring charts:
Basic program: http://www.lonestar.edu/departments/nursing/Scoring_Chart_for_Admission_.basic.pdf
Second degree online: http://www.lonestar.edu/departments/nursing/Scoring_Chart_for_Admission_2nd_Degree_Online_Sp_2010.pdf
LVN/Paramedic transition program online: http://www.lonestar.edu/departments/nursing/Scoring_Chart_for_Quest_Transition_Admission_Sp10.pdf
The scoring charts for the basic and second degree programs are the same.
Scenario 1
A in BIOL 2401 or 2402
A in ENGL 1301
B in PSYC 2301
or
A in BIOL 2401 or 2402
A in ENGL 1301
B in PSYC 2301
This is a GPA of 3.7, which gives you 3.7 points.
Take 27-31 hours of general education course, no grade less than C, 2.5 GPA overall. This gives you 4 points.
Now you have 7.7 points. If you need 11.4 points to be admitted, you need 3.7 points from the HESI Reading test. Multiply 3.7 by 25 to get the HESI score you need, which is 92.5. If you need 11.45 points to be admitted, your HESI score must be 93.75.
Scenario 2
B in BIOL 2401 or 2402
A in ENGL 1301
A in PSYC 2301
This is a GPA of 3.6, which gives you 3.6 points.
4 points for the 27-31 hours of general education courses.
To get a score of 11.4, 3.8 points are needed from HESI reading. Multiply by 25 to get a HESI score of 95.
Scenario 3
A in BIOL 2401 or 2402
B in ENGL 1301
B in PSYC 2301
This is a GPA of 3.4, which gives you 3.4 points.
4 points for the 27-31 hours of general education courses.
To get a score of 11.4, 4 points are needed from HESI reading. Multiply by 25 to get a HESI score of 100.
Scenario 4
B in BIOL 2401 or 2402
B in ENGL 1301
A in PSYC 2301
or
B in BIOL 2401 or 2402
A in ENGL 1301
B in PSYC 2301
GPA 3.3
4 points from the general education courses.
You need 4.1 points from the HESI exam, which is impossible.
With a 3.3 GPA, if you make 100 on HESI, you get 4 points. Your highest possible score is 11.3. Has anybody been accepted with an 11.3 score in recent times?
it won't let me edit the post now.
"you'll see that the score to get accepted is something like 3.4" is a copy/paste error. it should be:
"you'll see that the score to get accepted is something like 11.4"
the point of the post is that if you have all bs for the prerequisite courses, your total score can be at most 11.3 and that's only if you make a perfect score on hesi reading.
I think I've already answered this before....but unless you want to rely on making a 100 on the Hesi, I would re-take the classes that you got a B in. Only out of the 3 pre reqs...Eng, Psych and A&P. Are you sure you've looked at all the classes for mini mes, b/c I'm pretty sure at least Eng and Psych are offered at this time. If you are applying to Montgomery, I can tell you right now, that you will need all A's in your pre reqs, plus a pretty high score on the Hesi. Montgomery is waaayyyy more competitive and they only accept 40 students. There should be a selection criteria sheet for nursing on any of the Lone Star websites. It's just simple math. Check it out and see what score you MUST have in order to get AT LEAST 11.4. It's a pain that you may have to retake some classes, but if you wanna get in, that's probably what needs to be done. Unless, again if you want to rely on a very high Hesi score. good Luck
Hey Ashley! This is Susan from your Micro class! I finally went on this site you told me about, and now I wish I went on it months ago! That way I could have suffered through the waiting period with all of you! Well, better late than never I guess, and now I'm glad I have people to be excited with, as well as confused! lol.... I will be attending Kingwood in January, and I'm excited to meet all of you. Congratulations to everyone who made it in! So far I have done the background check, but haven't rec'd the postcard. Ashley, have you? I am waiting to get it before I go and buy all the books... not that I'm worried or anything.. although speaking of speeding tickets.... uh ummm.. well.. that was a long time ago.... lol...
I can't wait until we can finally start! Good luck everyone!
Hey Susan! I know I can't wait either and no I haven't received the postcard yet. I need to go check the mail though, but I can't right now. My baby boy is asleep and the mailbox is pretty far away! lol I have an appt. Mon for my physical. I haven't been feeling well either. Very fatigued. I'm thinking I may need to be put on iron again for anemia. So I'm glad they're requiring blood work with the physical so I can find out. But I'm pretty sure I already know. I just can't seem to kick this! So aggravating...oh well. Anyhow, I'm with you on the books! All this stuff we've had to do....plus waiting to see if we got in or not and NOW we have to wait on other stuff just for that 100% confirmation.
I've been sick this whole week too. I have a really bad cold I guess. I got my physical and blood work done on Wed, and am waiting for the results of the blood tests. I hope I don't need to get anymore shots! They have me a tetorifice shot, and my arm hurt for 3 days! Anyway, I have SO much studying to do for our THREE tests coming up in Micro, and I haven't even started... just don't feel good... wwaaaa!! I hope you feel better soon.
I was just wonder about the traffic ticket situation...my wife was going to apply to the program but she has quiet a lead foot! Will this prevent her from getting in? Is this a Lonestar stipulation or a BON one?
Can she fill out the 'declaratory' for the BON for her traffic tickets and if they approve so will Lonestar? Thanks.
hmm....I really don't know the answer to that question. That would be something you need to ask the nursing dept. The only thing I can say about the declaratory...is that if she thinks she may have a problem with the traffic tickets to go ahead and get that form started. B/c I believe that it takes quite a while to resolve the issues you may have and I don't think she can get in until thats complete. (not sure on that one) Check the website. That's all I would recommend for now. Again, I would call the nursing dept. I'm sure they will be glad to answer your questions!

I can't describe it in any other way. But your going to make a great nurse!!!!!
